Social Security Dependant

Question

I have a friend of mines who is diasbled and recieaves VA and SSD his child is 17 and wants to work but the child recieaves a check from ss because of his father can he work or can he not work while getting a check.

If your friend is receiving Social Security Disability Insurance payments...........then, yes, his kids can work.

HE can't work (well, he can, but it has to be with certain monetary/activity restrictions), but his kids can, because THEY are not claiming to be disabled, but your friend is.

And, don't forget, that if your friend is 100% disabled (VA 100% permanently and totally disabled), then his kids have benefits coming to them from not just the SSA, but also from the VA (Chapter 35 benefits, schooling, CHAMPVA healthcare, MWR access to military base exchanges for all sorts of things, even haircuts and groceries, etc.).

So if the child recieves a check from SS for being his dependant and under age, the child can work and recieve the check from SS. I hope I am not confusing anybody.
