DeaconDukes
Is this for federal students loan only? What about Sallie Mae? I believe that is a private student loan lender. I owe them and I am newly awarded 100% disabled. Deacon
Papa
Deacon, Mine was so long ago, so things may have changed. I had my student loan with a Savings and Loan that was guaranteed by the feds. But, I do not see why it would not work with that Sally people. I would contact them and see what the procedures are to get this loan taken off the books. If you don't you know what the response will be. Papa
SheilaLundlee
Woo Hoo! I received my letter today (Nov 4) from the Department of Education granting my discharge. I've been making payments to them for the last 18 months so a refund check will be here shortly. I also have loans with Nelnet and Sallie Mae. I submitted my TPD paperwork to them a little over 3 weeks ago. I verified today that they had both received the paperwork - they did. The process is a longer with the other loan holders. For instance, Sallie Mae took the paperwork I sent; made a preliminary evaluation and then forwarded it to the loan guarantor (California Student Aid). The guarantor then sends it to the Dept of Ed. When the DOE gets it, they verify that I'm entitled to the discharge and directs the guarantor to discharge the loans. I figure that could take a couple of months - especially with the holidays coming... Holler if you need any more info! Sheila Lundlee

Sheila, are you saying that they are paying you back the money you already paid on your student loans?? They discharge the entire student loan, not just the outstanding balance??? Thanks for clarifying this for muddly-head Hedgey!
