You can try getting the mortgage in strickly your name but I don't recommend it as any marriage could fail at any time and you'd be stuck for the whole thing and could have to give up half besides. jmo

You should be able to afford the mortgage on your own anyway, regardless of marriage, just to be safe. Just apply for it on your own and add her later, or not.

(I AM NOT A RATER- I work the claims BEFORE they are rated, annotating medical evidence in your records, VA and Legal documents,  and DA/DD forms- basically a paralegal/vso/etc except that I also evaluate your records based on Caluza and try to justify and schedule the exams that you go to based on whether or not your records have enough in them to warrant those)

Why would she want to be added to the mortgage, period, yet alone later??? Makes no sense. Usually a second person is on the mortgage just to make it easier to secure. She can be added to the deed, at anytime, subject to any existing mortgages.

that's what I meant-deed, not mortgage, sorry. Either way, in a community property state whether she is on there or not doesn't really matter since, worst case scenario, she'd be entitled to half of it anyway, depending on the wording of the decree and the laws of your state.
