westcoastlv
For once the VA has surprised me in a good way. Filed a dependency claim on 8/10/11 retro active to 7/1/10. The claim has been closed on 11/3/11, so the turn around time was less than 3 months. I still don't understand why the dependent pay wasn't awarded as part of the original claim because the VA had all of the paperwork from day 1, however, I'm happy that it has been resolved in a short period of time, and should continue moving forward. :)

The VBA has to verify everything regarding your dependent compensation all over again because the information you provided earlier may have changed between when you originally supplied the information and when something was granted . HadIt.com Elder john999 Posted November 4, 2011 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted November 4, 2011 Dependency is not that much for the VA to think about unless there is a question about age of the kids or who takes care of them. You are entitled to it sort of like SMC. All you have to prove it that you have kids who are eligible.
carlie
VA will want proof of any marriages, divorces, or births. Sometimes - frequently - claim issues can take several years to resolve. During this time the veteran's dependent information could contain several changes. I just now realize that in a weird sort of way - even dependent compensation might need to be authorized though some type of staged adjudication, for finance.
