Different Psyciatric Evaluation

Rate this question

PainterBK

Question

I went to my local VMAC for a psyciatric eval. today & the doctor says she thinks I was misdiagnosed

with paranoid schitz. & should have been diagnosed with major depression with anxiety disorders.

Will this have any consequences for my comp. rating or is this just a matter of one label or another?

She recommended weekly psycho therapy along with Zoloft & Trazodone.

Thank you for any help or insight,

Bob K

I doubt it. It is not the DX that is important but they way it affects you. PTSD, or MDD or Panic disorder all can disabled you as can schizophrenia. I do think that paranoid schizophrenia has a more negative outlook in the minds of most shrinks. As long as you are SC for a mental disorder that is what counts. I have had three or four DX'es over the years from schizophrenia to bipolar to MDD and back to schizoprenia. What that means to me is that they are just guessing.

Thanks for the info John, thats kind of what I thought. Any thoughts on the Psycotherapy & Zoloft. She said it would be 1 meeting a week.

Appreciate your time,

That depends - are you already SC'd for a mental health reason?

If yes- which one - at what evaluation and for how long?

I am rated @ 70% for paranoid schitzophrenia. Originally diagnosed in 1976 @ 50%.

According to VA the 1976 decision was a prestabilization rating, it is invalid because

I missed an exam in 1976. I have been rated 70% after a c&p May 2012, back dated to July 2011.

So according to VA I have been rated as of July 2011. I am currently speaking to an attorney about

the 1976 rating, but thats another story. Thanks for your time Carlie.

IF VA SC'd you for a mental health condition at 50% in 1976

and this benefits was never adjudicated to be any lower than the 50 % -

at least that 50 % is protected by the 20 year reg and can NEVER be severed.

terminated, lowered, etc . . . except by a showing of fraud, which I'm sure you are not.

I do not see how this doc could change your diagnosis held for over 20 years.

I can see adding additional co-morbid diagnosis, but not total negation of the

original SC'd condition.

I do not think it will matter one way or the other.
