“We substantiated that a patient was administered a medication in spite of a documented drug allergy, and had a fatal reaction. Another patient was found unresponsive after being administered multiple sedating medications. A third patient had a critically high blood pressure that was not managed aggressively, and experienced bleeding in the brain approximately 5 hours after presenting to the ED,” according to the OIG report’s conclusions.

Holy crap, Berta.

But meanwhile the VA cheerfully tells us how they put Veterans first, and provide the best quality medical care in the world.

Wonder which VAMC does that?

I sure dont have a clue. Then again, the malpractice stats at VA or just as bad as within some of the best private hospitals in the US of A.

I think a VA ER employee must have dropped the dime on them with the IG.

If these vets the VA killed have surviving spouses , I sure hope they come here if they dont know what to do.

From what I gather from the newslink they are all still within the FTCA Statute of Limits and can SUE VA up the ying yangs as well as file a Section 1151 claim for DIC.

The DIC will be offset as agreed to in any settlement they make with the General Counsel. And then paid whenever the FTCA monies are recouped.

Correct. The VA must like its Veterans to die waiting on benefits, according to this article 54 Vets die each day waiting on VA to process their claim.

This must save them a ton of money.

19,500 Veterans death in a year equals about 54 Veterans per day. These are "old" numbers from 2012, and its likely worse now, as the backlog has increased. The "decline" in the backlog the VA reports is fiction. You see, FDC claims "dont count" as a pending claim, so the numbers look better than they actually are. Just because you have a FDC claim pending, that does not mean your claim has been decided.
