Retroactive Payments

Question

Hello everyone, I am new to these forums and I have a quick question for you guys and gals. I medically seperated form the Army in May 2014 and started recieveing 70% Va Compensation in June 2014. I filed a FDC for sleep apnea and was approved for 50% which raised my total percentage to 100%. They placed the claim on my date of discharge of May 28, 2014. I have four children and a wife. I know I am entitled to Retroactive payment; DFAS completed their audit on my account on Feb 19, 2015 and it was sent and recieved by the VA on that date. After talking to "PEGGY" a number of times I continually recieve the same answer of that it is with the Regional Office in Atlanta. After speaking with the VFSO in my city he informed me that it should only be around 1-2 months before I see a deposit in my account. I find it very discourging when I read of the extrememly long waits that other veterans have endured and I know my little time of waiting is nothing; but any advice would be helpful because having 4 small children is expensive LOL. Thanks for any input concerning this situation.

Should be and reality are often two different things. The Atlanta VARO can be quite slow when they feel like it.

The retroactive payment situation was complicated by your DFAS audit. That added extra steps to the VA process.

You might end up waiting another month or so.

Remember that the retro payment is a one time thing, and, while quite useful.

should not be spent all at once.

SGT P - No offense meant but are you sure you're at 100%?? 70% + 50% = 85%, which is rounded up to 90%, using the VA's math (the Combined Ratings Table). Sorry but it can take a little time for VA to pay, also. Nice fish!!
