How is the claim paid

I have a question that I'm sure has been asked before, but I must not be using the correct wording when attempting to search for the answer. I filed a claim for my brother on October 9th, 2015. He won (sort of), just lowballed and I can work on that, but he was back paid for Nov-Jan. It's my understanding he should also be paid for Oct. as well. My question if you file a claim in a calendar month don't you receive payment for that month or do they forward the payment to the next month as was done in this case.

You are not paid for the month the claim is 'decided'. and the back pay is calculated from the next month forward. The most recent month is not usually paid either, because the VA pays 1 month in arrears.

Brokensoldier is correct. They pay starting the first of the following month. It kind of stinks though, but that's the way they do it.
