Recommended Posts

seasons greetings all. as some of you may know i have schrapenel wounds in my back and legs, with alot of schrapenel still in me plus djd, muscle damage and nerve damage currently rated 40% back and 10 % each leg.

have learned to live with the pain, the meds dont help much, pain level often 6-8.

but the last 2-3 months i been having this pins and needles, or burning sensation mostly in my legs but some in back, and starting to feal it in shoulders and arms,, doc uped the meds to the max and said if that dont help call him for another appt.. then he talked about pain clinic.

my question any one been through this nerve pain or been to a pain clinic what happens at a pain clinic,, any thing good.

to mention the nerve pain is more and more getting in that 7-even 9 range driving me up the wall

There are some good drugs for nerve pain. One of the newer ones with fewer side effects is called Lyrica. Topamax is another one and neurontin. The VA will prescribe these for you in generic form. These drugs have some serious side effects so be careful. A lot of us with nerve problems from diabetes take these drugs to stop the burning.

John:

Do you find Lyrica better than gabapentin or neurontin. I have been taking gabapentin for over 11 years it helps my neurophy and also panic and depression all in one pill. I know it when I miss a dose.

Lyrica did nothing for me to tell you the truth but I did not have the gross side effects I got from Neurontin or Topomax. Since Lyrica is supposed to do the same thing as Neurontin I figure it is ok since it had minmal side effects with me. I know it is expensive. I got it via my workers compensation case.
