Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer: could it be related to jet fuel exposure?

Rate this question

Question

My stepfather "caught" planes on the USS Card in WWII and was exposed to JP-4 and JP-5.  He recently died of Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer.  We're trying to find out if anyone knows of a connection so that my mother can receive additional benefits.  If anyone has information that could help, please let me know. Thanks!

Was he SC'd for anything? Did he have a Cancer Claim pending when he died?

Any DX from his cancer Dr, linking his Cancer to Av Gas exposure?

Berta will have to address the DIC aspect.

Was an autopsy done?

Was he ever exposed to radiation while in service?

Although jet fuels are cancer causing agents, I found nothing at the BVA to show a nexus between thyroid cancer and an MOS exposure to these chemicals

I found a very unusual grant of DIC ,due to this disease ,stemming from a veteran's service in Vietnam (AO).

Dr.Bash's opinion and other evidence outweighed the negative evidence from the VA.

As Gastone asked, did he have service connection for anything in his lifetime?

What did the death certificate state as any secondary contributing cause of death?

The BVA case above shows that with solid evidence and also a strong IMO, difficult claims can often succeed.

I assume your mother has a claim pending and has obtained copies of his SMRs and complete military personnel file.

Did any doctor, in his lifetime, suggest what might had caused this cancer?

Did the thyroid cancer metastasize from any other type of cancer he had?

If so, what other cancer did he have?

Claims like this can be very difficult and often should raise more than one theory of entitlement,if possible.
