Yes.  If do ANYTHING at VA you have to have proof.  The divorce decree is important because they often assign a portion of the payment as child support to your ex, if a judge so orders.  The decree should also list who claims your children as dependents.

Well- actually they just need your word- I did dependency before they sent me to challenge-

Tell them divorce date, and include date any stepchildren moved out- You can still get dependency for any you are supporting- you need to read the M21 as it's too complex to explain here.

 

People hate working dependency, love to 'develop'so they can't get in trouble for making a decision, - look back to find inconsistencies- So:

Be absolutely clear, accurate and succinct on anything you provide. Just the facts ma'am.

we had one authorizer who literally denied every single claim.
