Torn Hip Cartilage

Rate this question

Question

I am ETSing after 8 years in the Army. I was injured during training in May. It took about 5 months of tests and back and forth with my PCP before I was diagnosed with torn cartilage in my hip. The pain and inflammation is severe enough that I’m having to use a cane to get around. I was told by my PCP that I need surgery for my hip, and that the VA “will handle it” once I’m out. I was told that the VA only gives a max of 20% for hip. Is this accurate? I’m in terminal leave now, did a BBD and an just waiting to get my dd214 to submit. I’m just looking for advice/experiences I guess. I’m already looking for work, but finding a company willing to hire someone with a cane, is proving difficult.

The Army does lie... they should have performed surgery before you were boarded out. I can't really say what you will be rated at, but if you do have a surgery and it lays you up for ( I think) 15 days or more you will be rated at 100% temporary ( but only  if the hip is already  service connected by the VA) t and at a later day the injury will be reexamined and you will receive a lesser rate based on the post surgery results. ( I retired in 1986, not sure what a BBD means, in my day it was a medical retirement board).  If you near a Military Base try getting a government job, a disabled veteran will never lose his job to a reduction in force....best of Luck

if you have your medical records back when you got injured  use those to nexus your service connection,,if your injury has caused you pain and you cant work because of it  the pain    get into VA Voc Rehab..if they can't find you a Job making the 12.000/14,000 gainful employment status ect,,,ect,,,Then

ask the VOC Rehab counselor to write you a letter stating that it is not feasible to retain this veteran at this time due to is S.C. Disability,

You can apply for IU And submit this letter as evidence for IU   also a Letter from your Dr stating he has read your medical records and examine you and it is his professional Opinion that your his disability injury  is the reason your unemployable .or can't do any type of work.

Also apply for SSDI and use that if you  win  apply the SSDI award letter to your IU claim.
