Question

I retired from the Air Force in after completing 20 years of service in 1976.  In November 2016, I received 100% disability  from the VA based on my service in Vietnam.  I filed for CRSC in March 2020 and it was approved in April  2020 with an effective date of November 2016.  (My retirement pay from the Air Force was reported as Taxable Income for those years).  Am I eligible to file an amended tax return to reflect that the income from Nov 2016 to date was non taxable?

What did the decision letter say about your taxes?  Did it state that DFAS would be contacting you?  Did it state that you had to contact the IRS? Did it state that the IRS would be contacting you? Since recently being approved in April 2020, I would think that you should be contacted or be contacting them around 60 days or so but due to the COVID-19 and stimulus situation it may take a little longer.
