  1. To Jonn999,

If and when I get approved for ssdi and my payment is (for example) "1000 bucks a month". I am married with 3 kids, worked another job where I will fall under the WEP (Windfall Elimination Program) I was in construction and worked as a Police Officer.

At best guess what would I be looking at for a payment? I know the SSA has some type of formula they use when determining how much each kid gets. I don't believe my wife gets anything? I was told my maximum WEP would be around $400 bucks a month deducted from my total?

    Thanks,

    Waldo

  2. Hi Berta,

Thank you! I meet with a SSDI lawyer on the 24th. I will see what he thinks about a recon. I truly feel based on the denial letter that they ignored a tremendous amount of evidence. I just emailed my doc's in regards to RFC forms. I have no doubt they will fill them out for me. Like the VA, I guess you have to kill them with evidence. I won't make the same mistake twice in regards to them getting my records (lazy) I should have known better! Anyway, thanks for all the great advice!

  3. Chuck75: Im in my mid forties. I was talking to a friend last night who's wife happens to work for the Disability Determination in my state. He told me that they actually tell his wife and the other people who work there to deny!! They hate to give money out. He also told me it's hard to get SSDI if your under 50? So being in my mid forties can be hurting me a bit. I do believe that they ignored "evidence of record". What is the time frame for reconsideration?

Bonzai: Thank you for the forms. I will bring these to my Dr's.

  4. Hi Carlie,

I have all my quarters and credits covered.

SS wrote, "We realize that your condition prevents you from doing your past job, but it does not prevent you from doing other work". That was there decision in a nutshell.

Looking at the evidence they used I know there missing a ton of Info. I let SS gather all the info. I will not make that same mistake again, I will get everything together myself.

I have reached out to a good SSD Lawyer in my area. I will meet with him next week.

    Bonzai,

I will look into the RFC forms. Who exactly fills them out? My doc or va docs?

    Thanks all,

    Waldo

  5. Baca,

The "Deer" card (Commissary card) was easy. Find the nearest installation that issues ID cards and call to make an Appt. You will need your awards letter from Va, marriage certificate, Birth certificates for the kids and SS cards. If I forgot something they or someone from Hadit will let you know.

Champ va was surprisingly pretty easy also. Get the 800 number to champ va and call. They can either mail or fax Info to you that you will have to complete and return. They will also want to see your awards letter. Again, marriage certificate, Birth certs for kids and wife and SS cards. I did everything by fax. If I remember it took about a month. If I left anything out someone will let you know.

I called the nearest medical facility and made an Appt. to see a primary care physician (that was easiest for me). Again, by the time they got back to me and made an Appt. It took a couple of months. You can call, walk in to the clinic or do it online. For me it was priorities, Champ va, was first and foremost. I did the other stuff when I had time.

Take a deep breath and relax!

    Regards,

    Waldo

  6. Hello,

I filed for SSDI two months ago. I don't know if this is good or bad? I hear if your going to get denied you will know in the first 3 weeks. Supposedly it is with my state's determination team. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

  8. Hello,

I really haven't had much time to really absorb how fortunate I am with this rating. I have three kids under 11 and down the road this will come in handy. My wife was talking to me today about going back to school in the near future. As far as voc rehab goes I rescheduled for June 10th. I'll look into the Independent living program and see if I qualify, all they can say is no.

    Notorious,

My daughter has been getting spoiled since monday!

  9. Hello,

I was supposed to be at voc rehab at 9:30 this morning. My 8 year old daughter started to get a fever last night around 9:00 pm. At the height of her fever it was 103 degrees. I got up this morning in a panic and around 8:00 am I called voc rehab and cancelled. I told them I had to take my daughter to the doctors. Within a couple of minutes at the office they determined it was strep throat.( Amoxicillin and rest)

The point of my story is I was agonizing over Voc rehab because I was waiting on P&T from the VA. I had gone back and forth with a couple of the guy's on this site on what I should do. Anyway, I got home from the doctors office and checked my mail, BIG BROWN was in the mailbox. I called my wife and opened the package. P&T granted from 10/5/10! Very excited to say the least. As far as voc rehab goes I think I will let that go. God works in mysterious ways!

  10. Hi John,

Being disabled at 44 is depressing! I have been working since I was 14. I have almost 27 years ( Have a few bad years) paid into social security. Your absolutely right about my kids, they are my main mission in life! I understand I will get the chapter 35 benefits if VA rates me P&T. My wife has a great job ( we're fortunate) so Im in good shape there. I did suggest to her if I got the P&T to take advantage of the Chapter 35 benefits.

I guess it boils down to me and my thinking. Im just having a real tough time wrapping my arms around the whole disability thing. Im starting to get the less then feeling and it pisses me off! Im not one for feeling sorry for myself (I still have the Ranger Mentality) but it's been tough to take. Anyway, a day at a time as they say.

    Best,

    Waldo

  11. Hi John,

Im 44 years old. My 100% is for PTSD, Lower Back, Both knees, Right Hand, Arthritis, Hearing and tinnitus. I hear what your saying in regards to what VA might think and do. I will ask the counselor straight out on tuesday if this will jeopardize my rating. I have no problem walking away if it does. A friend told me this afternoon to look into the Independent Living? I guess I'll see what happens and take it from there. I have three kids under eleven and I don't want to screw anything up.

    Regards,

    Waldo
