  1. What the heck? I had been on Pre-Decision stage since July 2011, than just today claim went back to review of evidence, could this be because i did an inquiry to IRIS? I just don't understand, I have been waiting for my benefits since July 2010. Is this normal for the VA to do this? And if so, does anyone know how much longer my claim could take. At this point, I just don't know what to do, or think. I am seriously thinking of going to the media with this and make it known to the public on how we the veterans have to be put through so much stress even after serving our country for so many years.

  2. First before getting started, I like to think Magic for replying back with some very important information on what steps to take with these people. First, Magic not sure how to do an IRIS inquiry, gut I will try my best to figure it out. Having lost my left eye sight makes it a little difficult to sit and read for a long period of time. My right eye gets really tired and blurry after awhile. But I will look into it. Anyway Magic the VA does have all the information concerning my disabilities to include Army medical records showing in detail of my injuries, plus my Doctor at my local VA clinic also informed the VA medical doctors of my condition and so I was also treated by them for the longest allowing them to gether up a history of 3 years of constant medical treatment prior to me retiring from the Military.I have already completed all C&P exams last year with no further C&P future exams. I continue to see the eye doctors at the VA hospital only to ensure that the right eye doesn't lose it's sight and that the blind eye doesn't start to hemorrhage again. I also had to complete a sleep study with the VA due to having to use a CPAP machine for sleep apena which was diagnosed while in the military and treated by the military.I sure hope they hurry up with this, I don't think I deserve to have to wait this long for my benefits. Anyway, I just like to say that all off you beautiful people that take your time to help others on this forum will be greatly rewarded by the Lord. Thank you all for everything you do.

PS: Please excuse any misspelled words, my good eye get's really tired.

  3. I am so glad for you. I really need help. I started my claim with the VA on May of 2010. They posted it on Ebenefits on July 25, 2010. I retired from the Military on August 31,2010 spending over 23 years of active years plus several years of

Reserve time.. I suffered several service connected injuries while in the Military to include blindness of my left eye. All of my disabilities are service connected and all documents have been sent to the VA. Most of my disabilities have been

and continue to be treated by the VA. I have been granted my Social Security Benefits due to my service connected disabilities. I am and have been in the pre-dicision stage since July 2011, could anyone out there please give me some

advise on what to do next? On July of 2011 I also sent the VA a letter of Hardship due to being in danger of losing my home. I was told by the VA to send them the letter and they would try to rush the process, but as I can clearly see that

it really didn't make a difference, I just don't know what to do next. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

  4. Thats a GREAT Christmas present!!! Spend wise like everyone else has posted as it does go fast. As USMC89 said, I hope mine comes soon too!! Its only been in the works since July 2010 and still nothing!!

I am so Happy for you and your Family Merry Merry Christmas. Mine has also been in the works since July 2010, and still in Decision stage'

Thank you for your service Brother.

  5. Thank you Berta for all the hard work you put forth to keep us advised on the Camp Lejeune Waters. I for one just recieved a Health Survey from the ATSDR Health Survey of Marine Corps Personnel and Civilians. Looks like it's going to take awhile to complete this, for it has over 26 pages of questions. And it looks like it has to be turned in before the end of the month. Once again thank you.

  6. Happy to hear that everything is going well for you. Don't give up on the SSD issue. I retired from the Military last Aug 2010. I put in my claim to the VA, it's been 16 months since, I also applied for SSD and after being denied once, my lawyer put in an appeal and I was granted within 7 months of filing. Social Security does work faster than the VA. Hopefully I will also have some good news before the Christmas Holidays.

  7. Amazing...Just when I had thought I'd exhausted all attempts to get copies of my QTC C&P exam reports, the UPS van shows up and delivers me a box from the local VARO containing over 300 pages of my records. This is even stranger because I had called the VA 1-800 number first thing in the morning to try to get the status of my FOIA request to have copies of the C&P exams sent to me. I really wasn't expecting to hear anything of value but the man I spoke with was able to tell me the records were sent out last Thursday...and PRESTO, 3 hours later they arrive!! How cool is that?!

He also was able to tell me that my case was scheduled to go to review on November 28th and that he really wasn't supposed to tell me that but he did anyway for which I am grateful. I am VERY HAPPY with what is contained in the doctor's exam reports. Although there are a couple of minor details I don't agree with, the findings, diagnosis, etc. should help my claim for increased rating for PTSD, TBI, and IU in the best ways. I contacted SSA and sent them copies of the exams and they will take another look to see if the new evidence warranted granting me SSDI.

Keeping my fingers and toes crossed until I hear something from either the VA or SSA. Hopefully, Santa will drop of a nice envelope in my stocking this Christmas. If nothing else, at least this "new" news brings me peace of mind- something I haven't had in a long time.

Wishing you all a Happy Veterans Day and of course, Happy 236th Birthday to all my fellow Marines!

  8. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARINE... I'M SO GLAD TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR GOOD NEWS. I ALSO APPLIED FOR SSD AND WAS GRANTED. THEY WORKED FASTER THAN THE VA. JUST KEEP IT UP AND YOU WILL GET BOTH. I AM STILL WAITING ON THE VA ON MY RATING, ITS BEEN 16 MONTHS SINCE CLAIM WENT IN. GOOD LUCK.

  9. USNDW,I am so glad for you.I have a question for you. I retired from the Army last year after going blind to my left eye while being an active duty Recruiter. I was working and suddently i had a sharp pain in my eye and evently went blind. I was sent home due to not being able to drive a government car and or oickup potential soldiers. Anyway I tried to file a claim for TSGLI and was disaproved, dont know why, I was working when it happened. I even have a sworn statement from a fellow Recruiter stating what happened.Do you have any advise for me on what to do. I understand it's it $50.000 for the lost of one eye. Any input would be greatly appreicated.

    Thamks.

  10. I seperated 5 yrs ago and finally checked into the VA. Know very little about service connection and I just submitted a claim.. ptsd, bilateraltinnitus and lumbar back.condition (sciatica, tingling in toes, degenerative disk disease, narrowing at L3-L4, L4-5 & L5-S1, type I reactive endplate changes L4-5& L5-S1. L4-5 disk bulge with left prosterior disk extrusion of disk material to left L5 root as it exits the cal sac irritating and impinging on the nerve root, spinal canal stenois , L5-S1 disk bulge with forminal stenosis bilaterally in conjunction with space narrowing......... That's just my back!

Any friendly info for some fellow brothers. Tkanks

  11. Thanks to all for the voluntary council! It is nice to know that I am not the only one in this particularly nasty boat. I have begrudgingly relented on the topic of hiring an attorney to get the benefits we have all paid for, in more ways than through payroll deductions. I hired an attorney today, even though I have no way of knowing if they are good, bad or indifferent. They all seemed to think I have an easy to win case, which makes me even more certain that the process is set up to require the title .esq after your name in order to be given ANY respect by the SSA.

The part that I am having a hard time getting past is the fact that I applied mostly because of the PTSD and Major Depressive Disorder. The response from the determinations group was to send me for a general physical exam. The only Psychologist (x2) or Psychiatrist (x2), who has ever seen me, specifically wrote in their evaluations that my mental conditions "preclude him from gainful employment". Yet the SSA seems to completely ignore anything these medical professionals wrote. Even though it would be wrong of them to ignore the findings of VA Psychologists and Psychiatrists, I could understand better if there was 1 dissenting diagnosis from an SSA doctor. But there wasn't even an appointment scheduled for a head doc to look at me. This led me to believe that they didn't need any more evidence regarding my mental conditions. But their decision proves that they just didn't give a damn about the medical evidence that supports my claim. The only evidence they were looking for is: can he lift heavy things for a long period of time. How is that an evaluation of anyone's capability to hold a job?

Oh well, if someone has any selection criteria for hiring a "Good Disability Attorney" or knows of a place where others can find the research, it might be good to post it rather prominently. The Lawyers I chose have experience only in disability cases, and handle both VA and Social Security Disability claims.

As always, I will keep this post informed on any progress.

Thanks again, to the faithful responders. We should have a way of sending a kewl point or near-beer or something for the wise council offered here.

  12. Welcome Jarhead.Yeah, this a great website. My name is Domingo Aguilar, people here know me as Aggie. I also served in the Corps. I was in from 1976 through 1993 than got out for a few years and rejoined, this time in the National Guard as a Recruiter for another 10 years Active Duty, Just retired last year in August. I was stationed in Schools Bn in Del Mar from 1986 through 1990, then went to 5th MEB for for my last three years in the Corps. Welcome Brother. Hope you find all the answers you are looking for. There is alot of Great People here to help guide you through.

    Welcome once again.

  13. Thanks so much Berta, for all the information you have provided to me. Also thank you so much for looking after the Camp lejeune Issue. Yeah your right, it was kind of a love canal.Definitely not good for those that were contaminated, and have died from it. Sorry to hear about your husband, he serverd his country well, and now is enjoying the peace that he greatly deserve after dying for his country. Yeah berta I joined the Marine Corps in 1976 as a very young man. In 1993 I got out to go to Pharmacy School to become a Pharmacists, after completeing school a few years later i went back, but with a degree to fall back after retiring from the Military. So in 2000 i went back and servered another 10 years hoping to reach the 40 year mark, but unforunality i was injected a steroid shot on lower back by a Neurosurgeon doctor that the Military sent me to see, after one week of the injection i got so sick that i lost 32 pounds in 3 weeks sparking Diabetes in me with so many other medical problems, LIKE i really needed them on top of several medical issues brought up by the bad water of Camp Lejeune.Soon after i had a stroke to my left eye leaving me blind. The Military didn't know what to do, so they sent me home to recover and get well. After being home for 3 years of continue illness, the Military decided to have me retire due to not meeting Military Standards. So they found my medical problems Service Connected and ask me to retire and put in my claim to the VA for my medical issues. Well Berta, after loosing my left eye sight, I also lost my Pharmacy License, due to being to much of a liability.Thank you so much for the info, didn't mean to run on with my problem.

  14. Thank you, WorkAHolic. Your reply sure did make alot of sense. Thinking about it, I do think they have all my Medical records, because on e-benefits it showed as receiving my STR's records dated 10/12.2010 shortly after retirement which I know for a fact that those records were from the Army. Then on

7/13/2011 case went from Compensation to Decision stage, then it showed, STR's receievd again on 7/11/2011, Special Correspondence but remained in the Decision Stage. I will look into, iris.va.gov, and ask further questions.

    Thanks You.

  15. Many thanks to those that replied. Since my last post, I was granted my SSD, actually that was in July 2011. Seems like Social Security works faster than the VA. Still haven"t heard from the VA on my Claim. I forgot to mention that I am also one of the Million, Contaminated by the Drinking Water of Camp Lejeune N.C. while in the Marines in the 1970's . Does anyone out there think that, that might the reason why my claim is taking so long, reason being that the VA is possibly looking at that also. May thanks to all.

    God Bless.

  16. Aggie:

Welcome to Hadit. Thank you for your service.

As far as after C&P pretty much between 30 and 120 days. Since yours is a fairly clean claim not a lot of issues I would guess 30 to 60 days and maybe sooner. Also claims put in less than 1 year from separation go quickly.

Do you think there may be anything else you can claim before your year is up, Before Aug 10 2011 is best time to make a claim.

    Good Luck

  17. I retired from the Army on the 31st of August of 2010.I have several service connected disabilites which include left eye blindness other injuries plus diseases. I have been through all C&P exams over 30 days ago. My claim was filed over a year ago.Actually, i was pretty much forced to retired after serving almost 25 years of active duty. I was found unfit for continue service due to my disabilites.Does anyone out there have any idea on how much time after the C&P the VA comes back with a rating for my service connected disabilites? Any information will be greatly appreciated.
