  1. I've been reading and trying to find resources for this condition. I just got hit with it out of the blue and it landed me in the hospital for 8 days or so. It got real serious and quite scary when they were talking about removing organs and constant blood and platelet transfusions. As there is no known specific cause for this disease it is difficult to research. Has anyone who has been to SW Asia, 2007-2008, had any problems with coming down with this? If so what treatment path did you take and how are you managing with the choices you made.

  2. Anger and frustration seem to get in the way of me seeing the big picture. I can't honestly say that I am one of the really messed up vets on here that are and should be rated 100% or P/T. I'm not in good shape by no means but I can 't still stand on my own to feet, mostly. My hands are shot, but I can still use them to type and somewhat do my daily tasks. In all it really boils down to mind over matter. If you knock yourself out from the start of the gate I don't think you will be successful in defeating whatever stands in your way. It is imperative that your self talk, your reason for pursuing anything in life, keeps you focused and on task.

  3. Yuppers. Can't really argue that point. I think it's the same thing you and most say on here though. VA will only get away with what you let them. So as long as you have the means to fight, the means to keep the pressure on them, keep doing so, it may be years until your efforts may be realized, you may win, you may not, you may get something close to what you have to sacrifice to be proven right, then again you may not. I think it's the journey and the end result that will really tell whether you are truly at peace with your victory. Also, one veteran's victory against the VA or wrong doers is a victory for all us veterans and future veteran's a like.

  4. One of the comments made on the radio show by Mr, Sullivan was that there is no research being done abt gulf war veterans. That is not exactly correct. The gulf war exam is collecting alot of data from those who have participated. The doctor who examined me told me they are starting to see many similarities in the ilnesses amongst gulf war veterans and it was her opinion that over the years many new ilnesses would be presumptive to the gulf war/. So there is research that has already been done. HERES THE PROBLEM. TRANSPARENCY/ The government seems to want to keep the data secret/. They did the same thing when autism became a big problem and they were studying the mercury based preservatives in the vaccinnes. They did an extensive 2 year study. At the end of the study, they sealed the records. WHY?? Because they didnt like the results. Shorty afterwards, they attached a rider to a bill, that prevented class action lawsuits against big drug companies. how convienient!!! The same thing is going on with the studies of gulf war veterans. You see, the gulf war was an experimental war. MANY weapons systems, especially the depleted uranium coated tank rounds, were never used in actual combat. I was there and Its my opinion that the war was overkill bigtime. I think it was a huge weapons testing opportunity. And test they did. The Va has already been caught, cooking the books on gulf war data. They have the data, what we need is to hold them accountable, and put pressure on them to acknowledge ilnesses and compensate us for what they know thier huge " weapons test" has caused. hundreds of thousands of sick veterans. They want to try and shove us in a closet, because they see the writing on the wall.

Next year there will likely be around 450.000 active duty army troops after the drawdown. There are almost 300.000 active claims right now either first time or on appeal. I think an appealed claim is more of a thorn in thier side, than a original claim, because they know an appeal claim is an educated, stubborn vet, who isnt going away/ an original claim has a high chance of getting denied and forgotten.

I tend to agree with you on this 63sierra. It all boils down to accountability. Plausible deniability is a factor as well. I don't believe that I will see the day when the wrongs that big government or business will do the right thing. There are too many people in influential positions that would loose to much to let the truth out. Morals and ethics seem to disappear readily too fast when $ is involved. I tend to say money is the culprit, however, to go more basic, down to the real core of it, GREED. That is our biggest adversary. Until that is eliminated, until we as a society, those of us that act on this evil mannerism, rise above that, we will never be better than what we are right now. Change has to come from within. There is no way around that.

Anyways, I may be ranting, like I sometimes do. But I am up another dam night and I felt the need to do something productive, so why not discuss the problems that we had it members see in our worlds.

  5. This is what lawyers are for because they do know every rule and regulation. The VBA is adversarial. You can wish for a perfect world where the VA and SSA are fair, but in the meantime hire a lawyer and a good IME. Vets waited for 60 years to be able to hire lawyers and now we have the chance.

Yuppers. I completely agree. As I have been learning. The VA and health professionals that conduct themselves in this manner must be dealt with as we deal with the enemy in combat, Without discretion, without remorse. This is our new war and we must fight fire with fire. Proportional damage with even more strategic attacks. " This is war gentlemen"

  6. Right on the dot 63Sierra. At times I loose focus on what is really important. Definitely have to keep a watchful eye on the shannanagans of the VA. The system is not perfect and will always fall short in what it should do. Regulations and law will prevail, eventually. Truth will set people's moral compass the way it should. I still will continue to believe that.

  7. Good evening! Yesterday I was feeling terrible so I went to the VA E.R. I was experiencing extreme dizziness, fatigue and the terrible head aches, pain and numbness was effecting me bad. Shooting pain from both feet alternating- Even fell out of bed. So, the VA gave me a shot of something and a pill. Even fell out of the hospital bed there. They booted me out like a dog. I even explained that I had a brain tumor-they didn't care. I informed patient advocate as well. Nada-no big deal. My discharge paper work for the VA previously stated if symptoms re-appear or get worse, return to the E.R. Per original doctor I was to remain in hospital till surgery. For what-they surely didn't treat me right. And I have surgery next Thursday? My head is killing from the pain. I called nero surgery and they they told me the doctors in the E.R. know what they are doing. If they have any questions they can call us! Damm! What crappy health care is this. I have the surgery next week and surely don't trust them. They couldn't even diagnose me properly. I want the whole nation to know about this VA Health Care in Tucson!!!! I need a list of folks that I can call tomorrow to expedite this 1st thing-need to open a can of you know what ASAP!!!!!
Why should I suffer in pain, And the patient advocate-worthless!

I don't think that you should have to brother. If I knew a way I would surely tell you how to get this fixed. Okay in a way as a remark and a question. Since at times VA health care is so subpar, can fee based care be utilized to mitigate some of the ill treatment?

  8. Interesting concept. Actually quite frightening. I am wondering if people such as these characters will ever pay for wrongs that they do. I am not much to believe in Karma but I man don't ever put me in charge of handing out the sentences. I think I would be evil and have no compassion, which doesn't make me feel good about myself. Justice is out there though. Maybe not the swiftest in happening but I believe it to be unavoidable.

  9. rpowell01. Dude I am sorry to hear about the CT surgery. There's always a chance that things do not go the way they are supposed to when you go under the knife. I had a different type of surgery as I went the endoscopic route, however, I still have problems with my wrists just not to the same level and extent. Give it time to heal. With me it took a few months to get the most benefit out it. Bare in mind though, my surgery was not the open method. It will take considerable time to heal. Just take it day by day. Do the hand exercises, use heat, ice and elevation. Utilize pain management. It will take time but you will get there.

  10. Finally man. I am really happy for you. There is some light in the shadow that the VA tries to cast. I am glad that you shared this fantabulous news. I have a smile on my face as I am writing this. Happy happy happy for you. Perseverance ! Resilience! Hooh rah!

  11. It is always a contradiction. It is a an adversarial system which is structured to do a few things. Deny if at all possible. When it can't be denied then give the bare minimum. When it is appealed, state we construed or misconstrued the facts. So sorry Charlie we could not tell our ass from the facts. The paperwork will always shed light on the truth. Some times the journey will be long and it will take its toll, but perseverance will be a testament and true test. The confuse and evade tactic only works for so long and eventually you will have to face what is to come.

Anyways didn't mean to go off the deep end. I think that a rating letter can very well be used against them in an NOD. They have to follow the regs and law correct, at least you will force them to, Point out what they missed. Cite the regs, cite the evidence. File the NOD and start the appeals process. Build evidence, cite reg references again and see it through to the end. That will help.

  12. I can tell you from my experience, a chiro, electric stim, ice, physical therapy, pain meds, neuro meds, epidural shots, facet block, bilateral medial branch blocks and rhizotomy help but it is going to take some mind over body control. There are times when I loose it but you have to make a conscious decision to get through it. At times I admit I fall weak and feel like I want to just step in front of a truck but you have to be strong. You have a family and they are depending on you. Believe me I know what you are going through, most of us on here experience that feeling daily. We all need words of encouragement and true faith in each other and ourselves. Things will get better comrade. Best of luck.

  13. I was in a dark place today until I read your post. I cannot stress how happy I am for you and husband. It proves what dedication and perseverance can accomplish. It gives me hope and fills my heart with happiness. Never give up! Take care and best fortune to you and your family.

  14. Hello Hadit family,

I need reassurance from you all right now.... I have managed to keep my case at the RO with a reconsideration, a NOD, and a Reopen; how this was possible without it moving to BVA.... I guess it would be a good thing if I finally get SC for Fibromyalgia and my secondaries. It just scares me because it shows that I still have a formal appeal in ebenefits but it showing still at RO and the appeal was for Fibromyalgia. I was sent an IRIS response stating that I would need to either drop the appeal of Fibromyalgia or let it be process in the reopened claim dated 9/18/2013. Just to refresh memories, my original claim was filed 7/11/2012; I was denied 4/10/2013; I sent in a notice of disagreement, but I specified that I disagreed with the C&P examiner's opinion and the fact that she wasn't a medical doctor or a specialist in Rheumatology and that I wanted a new exam, but of course that was discounted. I submitted N&M evidence so they classified it as a reconsideration. I was denied again on 9/11/2013 and given a SOC. I submited more evidence and didn' get a response, so I filed a formal appeal on 11/15/2013. On 12/10/2013, I received a letter stated that I was previously denied all of my contentions and that the appeal period had expired, therefore I needed to submit N&M evidence in order to reopen my claim. Of course this was crazy to me, but as requested I submitted more N&M evidence and it sat as a reopened claim from 9/18/2013 to under review on 12/19/2013 to Prep for decision on 3/18/2014. Oh forgot to mention that I also filed for TDIU with this claim and an increase in sinusitis. The C&P exam results were received on 3/4/2014 the 21-8940 was received on 3/11/2014, but they say that they did not receive the N&M evidence for the Fibromyalgia and the 2 secondary conditions!! This is what worries me....can someone please pat the back of my hands and let me know it's ok....that ebenefits just wasn't updated and you are fine.

    Shyne-I

Shyne-I. I losed faith a long time ago. But I humbly ask the powers that be that things work out for you. Stay strong sister. And turn that smile upside down

  15. Well everything has took a turn for the worse. My employer is looking at releasing me. I work for the federal government. Does anyone have advice for possible federal disability retirement? I only have 12 to 13 years of service. I am worried for my family with the loss of income. Appreciate any advice or help that I can get.

    Thanks

I can empathize to your situation. Im a federal employee myself and I have been in the hospital for a week now. I am okay for the moment on leave but once it runs out I fear I will be in the same boat as you are now. I don't know how the specifics of short term disability but I know that I didn't opt for it with FEHB. I am not sure how I would even proceed with the VA since this is not a service connected issue and just popped out of the blue. Please post anything you find out. I will do the same. This is difficult to research being stuck in the hospital. Good luck to you.

  16. I agree with the statements above. More often than not they low ball the crap out claims if not just flat out deny them. So review the decision with a fine tooth comb. That being said congrats. It is always a good day when someone wins. Good luck.
