  1. Hi,

I have submitted an "intent to file" recently for PTSD/MST.  Although I was diagnosed in the past for PTSD/Depression and anxiety my therapist has since closed her practice and relocated out of state.  I have not been able to locate her or my records.

Having said that, I have a call this week scheduled to see a therapist at the VA to identify a therapy treatment plan (this is not the indepth eval. I don't think).  I am confident they will diagnose me with at least PTSD/MST and anxiety.

My question is related to a future C&P.  I had a full psych. evaluation (the kind that last for hours) at the VA two years ago that I had totally forgot about that was ordered by my VA neurologist when I was complaining of severe memory loss.  I am sure I hid anything related to PTSD during that eval. as I have always lied and covered up at all costs my history of a sexual assault and anything symptoms related to that to any provider.  I remember the psych. eval stating something about test revealed gross exaggeration of my memories issues with a final impression that likely my memory issues were due to anxiety and depression.

My question to you is if that full eval. will be held against a favorable outcome for my PTSD/MST claim?  I have a police report of the assault and I am confident the VA pschy doc. will provide a diagnosis of PTSD/MST, but I worry that I didn't show in the eval I had two years ago.

My second question is ....my mother died (in a traumatic way) about three years ago and I have not been able to deal with her death and have had a severe increase in PTSD since her death.  Information of depression and anxiety related to her death will likely show up in some of my medical records.

When I see the VA Pschy. for therapy in the coming weeks for my MST will the information about my mother's death work against my PTSD/MST diagnosis/claim if I mention that?   I have had a severe increase of PTSD/MST sysmptoms since my mother's death.  I know that her death triggered something major in me and my ability to cope with my past as it related to the MST, but I have read on these thread that mentioning certain life events can cause the C& P examiner to make a claim that other unrelated events caused the veteran's symptoms rather than the MST event.   Would my mother passing be one of those situations that would be held against a SC for PTSD/MST?

    Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

I am not sure what you men  ?

But first You need to request your C-FILE ASAP...and see if that C&P is in there?  that will be probative evidence  to use, You can go to ROMR (Release of medical Records) Sign a  ROI, Form. and get your VA Medical records there   go back as for as you need too(dates)

Your Private Dr's Office should be able to find those records for you even if your Dr left....check with the state board of medical records in which you live  or where ever  this was addressed at...those records should be in file some where?

Are you or was you ever diagnose with the VA for DSM-5 PTSD?

You need to talk to the VA MH  MST Coordinator about the PTSD Eval & MST...they will give you a screen test if you don't have a PTSD Diagnose?

...an you will probably visit with a lCSW S-3.  to evaulate you for signs /symptoms of PTSD due to MST or Related to MST...and the you will see a Phyistrist   for the Diagnose for PTSD

but if this is related to your moms death  unfortunately the VA will not S.C. it...this PTSD Diagnose has to come from the VA MH Dept and they can connect it to your military MST..Most MST Claims are rated with the symptoms for PTSD. and had to happen while in the Military...to service connect it and possible rating for Compensation.

Tell the VA MH MST Coordinator everything you mention here  about the botch half way Rape Investigation on both Police dept Military and Private Sector..Give them what you have,  it maybe hard for you to relive that moment but you need to tell the MH people what happen and how its effected your life

its not uncommon MST Survivors never tells anyone for years even family members or close loved ones /best friends ect,,ect,,,  and for good reasons  maybe ashamed or just don't want to deal with it or what ever   the point is your seeking help now and that's the way the VA looks at MST Victims

I am kinda confused rather or not you have a PTSD Diagnoses or Rating?  if you were diagnose for PTSD by private Dr's   the VA will have you take a Screen Test and evaluate you for PTSD due to the MST  & They will rate on your symptoms and the severity of them  so tell them everything that has caused you grief and turmoil in your life,  night mares/night sweats How its change your Behavior you don't like to around crowds or set your back to a door  things of this nature ,  how its effected your life .

You don't have to tell them why your just now seeking help  like I said they are professionals and will help you and they start by diagnose you with DSM-5  PTSD/MST and usually you will need to agree with treatment/MEDICATIONS/COUNSELING with VA or If you have good private Insurance you can see a private Dr  but most Veteran will use the VA.MH Dept.

I highly recommend the VA MH  b/c I too have a S.C. 70 % & PTSD Diagnose and been seeking therapy for couple years now  with other S.C. Disability's that are close to 200% with 2 SMC/s However My VA DSM-5 PTSD is Due to combat Tramua.

You are doing things right so for  My Advice is to tell you to go to your VAMC and see a MH MST Coordinator and tell her/him Everything you mention here on Hadit.

As for as Claims you can do some research for a VSO Veteran service Officer  or Veteran Service Rep  that are certified and Accredited with the VA  OR AN ORGANIZATION such as the DAV, AMVETS, American Legion ECT,,,ECT,,  or just come here to Hadt.

The VA MH MST Coordinator may can help you with a MST Claim? I;m not sure  or they will refer you over to a VSO/VET REP.
