    use Google maps

This is the Front gate of Shalimar. The Two Black Lines on the Gate are in remembrance of Giovanna. I sold the farm soon after this photo which is why you see "Se Vende" on the front.

Man I was exploring the option of living in another country at one time the law and order thing is what had me worried ,know what I mean . I got in jail in Mexico one time and that made a believer out of me just for drinking a little too much.Needless to say my money was divided right in front of me ,but I had the most in a sock and they didn't look here hit the state line as fast as I could.

  2. Thank you for the welcome back Infantry10 and gp747, Colombia and other countries are there for you to "explore" should you wish to do so but I would not reccommend it doing it on your own w/o a local one of the opposite sex to work together with the locals. Me, I was luckybeyond belief to have met my dearest Giovanna. She was a girl who had seen the world and I backed her 100%. I loved and will always have her deep in my heart. You may think this next part odd but I have had dreams with her and I talking that I could not distinquish it from reality. The last time was just days ago and I remember being so glad to see her. We were in the kitchen talking and the moment I looked into her eyes and ask "Oh Sweety Bee, Where oh where have you been? I have been looking everywhere for you?"

Suddenly, what I saw was a lightening speed trail of glistening silver starlike particles forming a double "SS" moving away from me at whatseemed light speed. It was as though I was supposed to know where she had been and what a silly question from this man of hers. Of course, she has seen the face of God and I can only imagine, Oh Sweety Bee, I will forever love you,

I think you should be able to see the Farm if you do a search for "Shalimar, Giovanna, Turbaco".... Let me check.

Ok sure sorry about your loved one ,you must have reaaly loved her just like I do my wife ,she has cancer however they said the last surgery she had they got it all but they said that on the first surgery ,something happen to her I just dont think I could take it . I will google map what you said .

  3. When you live on a "farm" outside of the "civilized territories" of Cartagena and the like, and your Colombian wife of years has recently passed on, you are money compared to the vast majority. So to answer your question, Colombia is safe where you would expect it to be safe. Large cities and the like but the outback farmlands a target. Especially if single, and not known. My wife and I were well known, however, upon her passing, returning to the farm I found much had "disappeared" and there were no ghosts at Shalimar.

    Josh

Wow I would love to live like that !!

  4. Hi Carlie,

This is Josh who was out of the country for the last 13 years living in Colombia. So much has happened in the last two years I had to return to my home here in the US.

My Dearest Giovanna who brought me there to get the antibiotics I needed to live, developed cancer 5 years ago and passed away Aug 27, 2012. I was as you can truely believe, I was totally shattered withher loss.

She saved my life and I could do nothing to save her. I miss her beyond belief and know she was my timing gear.

After 1.5 years living alone there on the farm without her as a disabled "Veterano Gringo" I could do it no more. I was becoming a larger and larger target as the days slipped by, I just had to return.

Oddly enough, two days after I returned, (Nov. 6th 2013), I recieved formal notification my 1151 claim had been finally approved. I have the decision but have no idea how to read it, Hmmm,,,let me restate that. I can read it but what does it all mean, I no clue. I am sure of one thing, I have be awarded minimum 10 years retro, 100% total and permanent...

I would like for you and Berta to check out the wording if possible but do not ant to "openly" post it for all to read, I need to edit it and blank out the private info I think. Name SSN etc.

I hope you and the crew here are well Carlie. Take ever so much care.... Josh

Hi josh I was wondering what you mean by larger target is it not safe there in columbia ???

  5. Welcome back Skunk...lets hope the wife can stay cancer free. You both deal with enough.

"Ok after I got out of hospital I filed for increase from my 50% from 70% up to 100%"

Do you mean you filed for TDIU?

John999 is right......and the 21 day temp 100% check might cover the fee for a strong IMO and the IMO might even contain (this would be great) a strong medical rationale that you are medically P & T.due to your SC disability.

That would award the wife CHAMPVA.

    CHAMPVA is a fabulous benefit for any P & T veteran's dependents.

Have you applied for and/or do you receive SSDI?

I sure am praying she can stay cancer free and thanx . I haven,t filed for tdiu I just told them that I wanted to be evaluated anywhere from 70% to 100% whatever the evidence would bear. I am getting 50% now and it has taken some internal fortitude to file this claim as I know how sneaky they can be and possibly reduce me just because they can. Yes that is one of my goals to get my wife on the champ va hospital bills are killing us. I am retired but was on ssi before i retired my wife is still my representative payee and has to file a report every year .

  6. If you can your medical records I would somehow get a copies of them and send them in yourself. I think I've read in here somewhere, if they have to get the records themselves it slows things down a lot and who knows if they even get them or the right ones. For now on when it comes to VA, I'm gonna be the one to make sure they get what they need cause these different departments the va has don't communicate with each other very well. I'm proof of that!! I'm sorry to hear about your wife and hope things get better for you.

Thanx and I will see what I can do I did send in the records from my last stay I downloaded them from myhealthevet with the blue button.

  7. Well from what I know the department of veterans affairs can get my records from a VA hospital anytime they want and I did tell them to retrieve records all way back to 2009 when I got my last increase from 30% to 50% .I have done this before but been long time hard to remember exactly what to do.

  8. Did you submit all your medical evidence to the VA? You probably need a shrink to do a report for you in which he/she reviews your previous medical records and ratings and states that based on his medical opinion you are 100% disabled. A shrink must say this explicitly and not beat around the bush.

Well all my records are at the VA in Memphis TN and that is the only place I go . Sorry I gotta get used to using this forum.

  9. You have reached the Board of Veterans Appeals. Your file is located at the Jackson Regional Office. For your convenience I will forward your inquiry to the regional office and provide contact information below.

    Jackson Regional Office

    1600 E. Woodrow Wilson Avenue

    Jackson, MS 39216

  10. I know what would get the word out allocate 10 computers to those who want tp participate, then let the service officer for each area allow you to put a notice in their office and give a number where you can be contacted.

This would be of benefit to the service officer as the vet filing a claim will not have to worry them about questions and status of claims they could get the answers to most of their nquestions on the internet.

I really believe this idea would help a lot of vets who do not know the ropes and have given up.

  11. What I have been and not successful yet is trying to get hold of someone in DLA (Defense Logistics Agency). This is the Agency that is in charge of disposing all Government property. The government disposes of 1000s upon 1000s of computers and computer related parts. There are DRMO (Surplus Storage Sights) through out the country. I would like to get DLA to give all Disabled Veterans the authority to visit and shop for computer and computer parts. The hard part is gettin g through all the red tape. If, any one else has ever worked or had dealing s with any DLA and/or DRMO, please chime in.

    Papa

Hey that would work, look at it this way with a computer a vet has a better chance of finding what is right for him, be it a job ,voc training, endless possibilities.

I just cannot imagine filing a claim without one,and if it had not been for a computer and guidance from hadit and sites like it i would never have won my claim. I was able to instantly contact senators congressman, and keep up with my claim through IRIS.

I sure would help in any way i could though i have a lot to learn putting one together is pretty simple, you know just a basic computer.

I would be willing to go around in my surrounding area and help the vet get familiar with logging on the various sites to get help and teach what little i know to them.

I really believe this would help a lot of down and out vets who have given up and need a leg up ,not to mention the bvet is going to feel better about himself knowing he has the power of the computer and the friends of hadit and other helpful sites.

  12. Skunk, You just gave me a great ideal. You may have heard of homes for Vets, guitars for Vets, so why not build your own computer in a box for SC Disabled Vets? I know that it is far fetched, but most things are/

    Papa

Hey that is a wonderful idea,as a matter of fact this lady contacted me as she heard i was into computers and wanted one for her kids in school. She said mr skunk ,i do not make but $200 a week and i was hoping you could help me. So my heart was broken and i let her have a real good dell for just what i had in it and threw a lexmark printer in with it . I let her have it all for $50 .Then she came back and said she did not have a mouse for it so i gave her a mouse.

Hey that was the best feeling i had in a long time ,to help some one especially if they are seeking a better education for their kids.

She has come back and wants another bone and i am waiting on my bid to go through to get some more as she said she knew some other families who needed one for their kids.

I am not in it for the money ,just to break even on the parts i have to buy will be alli need. We could really make this work all we need is the old computers people and schools etc throw away, sometimes there is hardly anything wrong with them at all.

I am willing to participate just show me the way computers for vets that cannot afford one ,could use it to help with their claims or check out hadit.com.

I would not want to be the ring leader ,but will participate if some one gets it going .

  13. Well looks like i am going to have to lower my sights a little bit. I foune this motherboard and after adding everything i needed to go with it ,it hit around the $2000 mark.

So until i win that million dollar raffle in arkansas "bought four $10 tickets" , i am going to stick to my junk computers and learn a little more.

But you just wait it is coming when you walk in to my game room you will think you are on the planet oz .

  14. Good info, Chuck!

I got my first PC in 1983 - Compaq with 270MB HD, 2400 baud modem and I forget the RAM but wasn't much.

Used dialup for AOL and BBS.

Kept working on and learning computers.

Then, in 2009, I volunteered at Free Geek to get a PC in exchange for time breaking down old PC's for recycling.

They are Linux fans and I figured it wouldn't be tough for a techie like me to learn- I was Wrong.

There was no chat capability (which I enjoy doing nightly), trying to get a printer installed or any peripheral was a monumental task, etc.

I might get some nerds riled with this but since The World uses Windows, I'd avoid Linux.

That is strange i was just studying about linux ,the ubuntu version . hey i posted this motherboard i am thinking about buying to make a game computer . I was wondering if you had time would you check it out on newegg and tell me what you think i need to go with it to complete it ,such as i was thinking of corsair mem cards maximam gb i can get for this board.

If you get a chanc e look at it and let me know what you think .

ASUS Rampage III Formula LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard Model #:Rampage III Formula Item #:N82E16813131666

you can find it on newegg site look at it and put together a package so i can compare to what i think i i need ,i really would appreciate it if you have the time.

  15. ASUS Rampage III Formula LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard Model #:Rampage III Formula Item #:N82E16813131666

I found this motherboard at newegg and was thinking of building my first sho nuff game computer. After i build it check it out i will try to sell it and see if i can make some money selling ultimate custom game computers with all the frills you dream of.

  16. Skunk, your enthusiasm is remarkable!

However "supercomputer" is a relative statement.

For individual use, the first thing to consider is what is the computer going to be used for.

(Use more or less determines the minimum and desired capabilities.)

    For instance

Business applications are in general not too demanding. Exceptions exist when high resolution graphics and massive number crunching are involved.

Software development is another demanding application.

Gaming (Generally the most demanding of current consumer applications)

Simple games are not very demanding. Animated high resolution first person shooter games (Crysis for example) demand high frames rates, detailed graphics and modern (read expensive) video cards.

Storage: Currently, newer conventional hard drives have storage capacity that was unheard of, and the price is quite low. Solid State drives (SSD) are still about twice the price, and have less storage that the conventional drives.

So, for storage, a solid state drive of at least 120Gb, with at least a 500Gb Hard drive is indicated on today's high end desktop systems.

Processors: Intel currently has the speed advantage. AMD's processors have the dollar/performance advantage.

Video cards: Most modern "high performance" video cards in today's market have Nvidia or AMD/ATI GPU chips. Prices range from "reasonable" to around $1000, with special purpose cards into the multi thousands.

Memory: DDR3 is the most common on current motherboards. DDR2 is still commonly available, and often used on lower priced motherboards. ~4G of installed RAM is common, with 8G common on 64 bit windows 7 systems,

Memory speed is a price/stability/use consideration.

Display/Monitor size, color depth, speed, and of all things the capability to display "Blue Ray" and other encrypted video.

    I won't get into keyboards, mice/trackballs, etc.

The newer design Motherboards have double the hard drive interface speed of the older ones, and higher speed USB ports as well. Some have video on board, but the on board video is usually not suitable for gaming and other demanding applications.

    (And so on)

I'm retired now, thanks to A.O., and was a OEM/VAR, MS MVP & Consultant from 1989 to retirement. On occasion, I still build systems for personal/private use.

Wow ! I was thinking of building high end game computers as i believe i could get my money back out of them and my son is in college learning to make games for computers and such.

I like to play games sometimes and dont laugh ratchet and clank is my favorite as far as a playstation goes ,my son likes black ops and stuff like that . I really just would like to get into it for the fun of it and it is a challenge when you only have a ninth grade education. however i have always had a knack for electronics ,just never pursued it.

This is going to be fun i can fool with a computer 14 hours a day and hate to leave it then. I know i have a lot to learn and will never know what a high school student knows in my lifetime but i am having fun giving it a whirl >

Man they have some 1T harddrives now .

  17. Another pitfall when you build your own is that a ready made computer comes usually with a lot of software that can be expensive.

Any hobby or avocation usually means to start off slow and learn and than go for the super computer after you have built a few.

    Just my opinion.

I totally agree ,i do not want to spend a lot of money and blow the whole thing up because i did not know what i am doing. I do not think i am going to have a whole lot of problems assembling one ,where i have my problems is with software.

I have gathered several old computers and built a simple one out of parts from each, however i know i havent touched the tip of the iceburg as far as what i need to know and believe me it is intimidating to look at all the stuff you should know.

I have been looking at a site called NEWEGG and what i would give to have a lot of money to spend with them. I had in mind what notorious kelly saw in his post with the neon lights .

Heck i want to communicate with the aliens !
