You are correct, if you are over 50% you get two checks. When I first retired I got 90% and was getting most of my retirement and a $2K check from the VA. Now I am 100% and get full retirement and my va check. I retired in 2009. Look up CRDP and it will explain everything to you.

baca, i wonder if that is true for all states. i'm trying to picture florida's right now and i'm drawing a blank. i'm thinking there was no wheelchair on it but i could be wrong.
I am in Maryland. I did not have to get the disabled plates. The DMV told me pick your plate but it is free. Both the vehicles I own have free plates on them and I got the rear view mirror tag to use if and when I want to for both vehicles.

I have Diabetes Type II. While on active duty, 78-92, I did get sent to Walter Reed for some type of test and was found to have nephritis (sp). That doctor kept asking if I had diabetes in my family, which I did not. Again, while pregnant, I was asked the same thing. That doctor told me I probably had the beginnings of diabetes; however, don't tell anyone and to exercise and lay off the starch.
I got off active duty in 92 and went into the reserves. In 2004, I had an army physical and was found to have diabetes. I went through a medical board and was found fit to stay in the program. The diabetes got worse, and in 2010, I was issued a profile which stated the diabetes, plus no field rations. I was also informed that I was not qualified to serve anymore, so I retired.
My question is, can I file a claim as the condition worsened over the years, or should I just leave it alone?
thanks,
TOP
I retired in 2009 and found out I had diabetes in 2008. I got 20% for diabetes and 10% per limb for diabetic neuropothy. They will just take a blood sample and verify your A1C at the C&P or at least thats all they did with mine plus my records while on active duty.

I am retired and 100%. I get my full retirement check and my full VA Check. Nothing is offset once you hit 100%, everyone else is being phased in, 2014 it is suppose to be no offset if over 50%. You get 2 checks.

I used the BDD program when I retired in 2009. I filed everything and had my C and P appointments 6 months prior to my actual retirement date. I had my rating back 15 days after my actual retirement date. It is a great program, just wish it would have came along earlier for other folks.
-
I retired under the BDD program, I was told from the date of your leave. This was because you needed to be in the area still for your C&P exams.
I liked the BDD process, I filed in Feb and actually retired after my leave on 31 July, I had my results on 13 August.

Chief,
Did they rate you using the bilateral factor for the PN?
To be honest with you, I'm not sure. My letter stated 10% both upper extremities and 10% both lower extremities. the PN was added in with PTSD at the same time and took me up to 100% schedular P & T from 90%. So I never looked into the bilateral as I was at 100 now and happy.
-
those diagnosed with Peripherial Neuropathy , I would like to hear what caused it, was it from active duty, what are your symptoms, what percentage were you assigned totoal or per limb?
thanx..
I have it, but have not gotten back my C&P exams yet..
It appears these diseases are so damned comlicated,, I have no clue about this stuff..
IMHO
Diabettes and 10% per limb

From my experience it is all about range of motion. I didn't allow him to keep bending me or pushing, once it started to hurt I said that is all I could go, vs still going and hurting. Range of motion is a big factor.

Hello. New here trying to get some answers that seem to be confussing, at least to me. I am rated at 70% disababled, 60% for heart and 10% for knee. I had to quit wok because of all the chest pain and knee pain, plus my blood pressyre is going thru the roof. I filled for a increase in benifits for these and some other items that were on the list they sent me. Also applied for unemployability (looks like works not going to let me come back). I retired from the navy in may 1988 and draw retirement pay also. Question is? If they give me 100% disability ( iu or what ever else kind of 100% there is). Do I still draw military retirement pay also? I have read abunch of different storie and items and still do not know. Thanks.
In short, Yes. I am 100% SC and retired, I get both checks in full.

Hello Everyone,
I'm currently going through the BDD process for my VA claim, during one of the VA seperation briefings it was mentioned that it was possible to get a "pre-determination" (can't remember whats it's really called) letter based on your medical records more or less on what percentage you might get which can be used to claim 10 point veterans preference for any federal job. I asked the regional VA office here in Germany and was informed you only get the letter after you have been awarded a percentage. I tried getting a hold of the briefer to reverify but no luck.
Question is does anyone know anything about this?
Thanks
Never heard that, I had to wait until my brown envelope came with my official rating, then seen my service officer and she called and I got the letter same day by fax in her office. I also used the BBD Program.

Salt Lake VA sent me a letter stating that my comp would go down due to my daughter turning 18. It gave directions to send in a school letterhead from the college she is enrolled in in the fall and her expected graduation date. Sent it in as requested got my brown envolope a month later, the increase, not decrease is effective 1 August 10. Nice increase at that.

I retired last year and did pretty much the same thing. I called the GI Bill Education Number 1-888-GI-BILL-1 (1-888-442-4551). From there they gave me the number to fax a memorandum in basically saying I wanted to change how the months were distributed. Moved all months to my oldest daughter who starts school this fall.

Just renewed my plates in Maryland. If you have a 100% P&T letter with you, you can select anyplate and it is gratis (free) and they told me I get the discount on both of my vehicles. I did not have to get the handicapped or DAV plate, got a Chesapeake Bay Plate and the hanging tag for your mirror.

Chief: How long ago did you receive your VA decision letter?
I recieved it March of this year. They back dated my effective date to last November.
-
I just received mine about a week ago. It was the CRDP VA Offset of my retirement back to the date I was awarded 100% effective. It was a surprise, but a nice one as I had an unexpected expense come up that killed my budget and the $600 dollar credit fixed it.

I would fight that 0% rating for my feet for PN. I was denied for upper PN and granted 10% for feet. I appealed and got 10% for upper via a DRO hearing. You run a much bigger risk with PN of the feet from DMII. You don't hear too often of guys with DMII losing a hand from infections via PN, but you read about this being the case with PN and feet. I had a very minor procedure done on my foot. It has taken about 6 weeks for the damn thing to heal. That is part of DMII. I got a wound infection as well.
I would have fought it, but with the addition of my PTSD and the PN I hit 100% schedular, and was awarded P & T. Thus, it doesn't make sense for me to bang my head against the wall fighting the VA for more percentage on my feet, they SC'd for it so if anything does go wrong I am covered.
Does my reasoning make sense? I can't get more than 100% right?

Rotorhead,
I was awarded 20% for DM II with oral meds. I was taking metformin at the time, since I have started a second pill and may graduate to injections. I have nueropothy moderate in both hands and both feet as noted in my C & P exam. They gave me 10% for upper Bilateral and 0% for feet. I thought that I got low balled on the nueropathy, but it made me hit 100% with my other SC conditions. On my HTN I got 10% for my top number being above 160. For the Erectile Dysfunction, I got 0%, I am on Levetra, but I was awarded SMC K $96 a month. Hope this helps.

I received my brown envelope last week, I got the extra 10% and am now 100% P & T. Thanks everyone for all you post on here.

Hi CHIEF915,
I have read your earlier post.
Are you employed?
Do you receive Social Security Disability for your Axis 1 illness?
I see you are sitting on 90%.
Did the doctor state if you were or not employable?
I am again sorry, but what you have posted does not give me much to go on.
Betty
Betty,
I am not receiving Social Security as I am still working and want to continue just to keep me busy. As far as the Axis I illness I just had the C&P last month. I just checked with the FT Sill BDD office and they said everything is waiting on a rater now. The doctor said I am still employable.

Chief,
I get the feeling that you may not be familar with "VA math".
I'm gonna try to go for the easy explanation here, but, feel free to check out the REAL explanation which is posted here on the hadit board:
Say ya start with a 50% disability rating, then you get another 50% disability rating. Nope, you're not at 100% yet..........you're at 75% (well, actually either 70% or 80%). Then you add another, say 10% to your 70%, nope, not 80%, but something like STILL 70%, then you add another disability of, say 70%, AH-HAH! Now we're really talkin', cause that will get you ALL THE WAY to, maybe, 80%, then add another 50%, hey, we're all the way to 90%, yada, yada, yada.
Funny how all that crap DOES NOT WORK in the veteran's favor, ain't it?
You can simply look at the VA's convoluted reasoning and TELL WHAT SIDE THEY ARE ON!
If I was the VA General Mojo, I'd do away with that VA Math tomorrow when I got to work, for it reeks with anti-veteran stink (that's my official suggestion, that one that they were asking us for, the one whereby you can "WIN" upwards of a MILLION DOLLARS, fer suggestin' something so freakin outlandishly simple that you KNOW they will NEVER implement............................... :o
It took me a bit to get it at first (VA Math), but I understand it now. When I got my original rating of 90% I didn't see how they got that cause I added everything up and it was a lot more than 90%. I am shooting for that last 10% to get me to 100%, the items I have listed are the ones I asked for reconsideration for increases and new items. I am still in that "Majic Year" after retering from the Army so they said everything will be automatically SC'd. Thank you for your input, and I second the motion on your official suggestion.

Yes, I am still working and still want to work. I am trying to get bumped up to the 100% rating and still be able to work as much as I can.

Never got any responses, just plenty of views.
Back Payment Time Frame For Military Retirees?

I retired in Sept 09, did the BBD program in Feb 09, got my rating 18 Sep 09 at 90% submitted a few new items in Nov 09, got 100% P and T schedular in March 10 and retro from my retired pay hit within 30 days.
Maybe I was just lucky. Salt Lake processes all my stuff.
