I was confused when DOD sent me a letter that authorize me to have the Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars so I did the research. I don't think I'm confused anymore unless someone out there corrects me if I'm wrong.

VietNam Campaign medal is the one with the "1960" bar.

VietNam Service Medal is the one with stars.

First post shows criteria for star.

The campaigns and dates were posted some time ago...

Vietnam Campaign does not use any extra stars . That was a one time medal from the S.Vietnam Goverment to U.S. service men and women.

Vietnam SERVICE medal was issued for different campain dated you served in country. The bronze stars are for different times of service/campaigns.

When I had my medal updated they authroized one siver star to be added to the VnSM . This does not mean I was there 5 years only that Iwas there for 5 different campaigns.
