Will,

My c-file had all the health records back to day one in boot camp. I did however have the prescence of mind to make a copy of my health record before I was discharged just in case. DJ 8 :)

Sometimes it is best to get a copy of your SMR's from St Louis and your C"" File should have them but sometimes its only partial records if that makes sense?

Veterans deserve real choice for their health care.

Pete is right-Will but there is a good chance that VA already has this stuff for your pending claim.

A SO or vet rep with offices at the RO could find out for you- if they have your POA.

Re: Service Medical Records

When the VA retrieves your SMR, do they receive a copy or the original? The records at my last C&P sure looked like the originals, although I could be wrong since I didn't have them in my hands.

Two things.

One, all treatment records may not be in your SMR's. This is especially true for GW1 vets. In theater records are stored by facility for GW1 vets, they will not be in SMR's. I do not know about the current conflics however, or previous ones for that matter. I need to find out about the current methods.

Two, when I requested my SMR's, ST. Louis said VA had them. I had to get copies from VA(C-file). So I believe ST. Louis sends the originals to VA. I don't know this as fact however.

Will, Just received my c-file the other day after requesting ALL my records and health records used to make a decision on my claims. It has all my medical records from back when I was on active duty and all the c&p's since. Pretty complete and in actually very good order.
