Hearing Loss

Question

I just got the copy of my complete c-file and health records from the RO. In it was my request for hearing loss from 1983 it also had my one sentence denial letter. After reviewing my health records they appear to show that I infact did have some hearing loss start while I was in service but the statement "satisfactory for VA purposes" anyone ever heard of that? Also I am now having a very hard time hearing or should I say understanding even with my aids. I was wondering if I should take these records in and have my VA audiologist that I have now go over them and see what they say? I would really like to reopen this claim because I do believe that this really started while i was in service.

Thanks for all your replys, Stillhere

Jayg, Thanks for the help but what is PULHES and where on the exit papers do I find it.

Thanks, Stillhere

PULHES is a medical checklist for entrance to or exit from Military service, i.e. your ETS physical. Those records should be in your personal records jacket. The code stands for (I think) Pulminary-Urinary-Lungs-Hearing-Eyes-Skeletal

Here is the definition of PUHLES from the army

http://usassi.army.mil/369/Traning/42A%20CLASSES/MOSC/PUHLES%20DEFINITIONS.pdf

P Physical capacity or stamina – This factor, general physical

capacity, normally includes conditions of the heart; respiratory system;

gastrointestinal system, genitourinary system, nervous system, allergic,

endocrine, metabolic, and nutritional diseases; diseases of the blood

and blood forming tissues an d dental conditions; diseases of the breast.

U Upper extremities - This factor concerns the hands, arms,

shoulder girdle, and spine (cervical, thoracic, and upper lumbar) in

regard to strength, range of motion and general efficiency.

L Lower Extremities – This factor concerns the feet, legs, pelvic

girdle, lower back musculature and lower spine (lower lumbar and

sacral) in regard to strength, range of motion, and general efficiency.

H Hearing and ears – This factor concerns auditory acuity and

diseases and defects of the ear.

E Eyes – This factor concerns visual acuity and diseases and defects

of the eye.

S Psychiatric – This factor concerns personality, emotional stability,

and psychiatric diseases.

1An individual having a numerical designation of “1” under all

factors is considered to possess a high level of medical fitness and,

consequently, is medically fit for any military assignment.

2 A physical profile “2” under any or all factors indicates that an

individual possesses some medical condition or physical defect which

may impose some limitations on classification and assignment.

Individuals with a numerical designator “2” under one or more factors,

who are determined by a medical board to require an assignment

limitation, may be awarded specific assignment limitations.

3 A profile containing one or more numerical designators “3”

signifies that the conditions or physical defects which require certain

assignment restrictions. The individual should receive assignments

commensurate with his or her physical capabilities for military duty.

4 A profile serial containing one or more numerical designators “4”

indicates that the individual has one or more medical conditions or

physical defects of such severity that performance of military duty

must be drastically limited. The numerical designator “4” does not

necessarily mean that the Soldier is unfit because of physical disability

as defined in AR 635-40. When a numerical designator “4” is used,

there are significant assignment limitations which must be fully

described if such an individual is returned to duty.

Hey huskerfanfl. Thanks for the correction! <_<

I dug my first enlistment form out. It's a (not "shouting, it's allcaps on the form)

"ENLISTMENT CONTRACT- ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES"

"DD FORM 4, 1 FEB 70" "REPLACES DD FORM 4, 1 APR 68 WHICH IS OBSOLETE"

In either case, I'd say that's the form you're looking for. On mine, it's item 25 "physical profile 11121B" On mine the 2 is for my eyesight, (near sighted).

Good luck. I hope this helps.

Hey! My 'edit' button showed up! Thanks whoever flipped the switch! :)
