Windy, I too have FMS and yes I have lower extremity pains. When I sit in the evenings my calves ache really bad. I have to continuously move my legs around because the pain is so bad. About a month ago I could not lift my legs off the ground without assistance, walking up stairs was impossible. I am now on 300mg neuroton three times a day and an antidepression. I take a muscle relaxer at night to sleep. In just a month I am feeling much better and I can lift my legs up again. I disagree that it is a garbage dx but I do agree that your problem could be caused by a number of different things. I would ask for a complete work up to include a nerve conductor test and also a sleep test to see if you have restless leg syndrome.

If you do have FMS there are several medicines out there that may help you. I hope that you find a dx soon and that your pain stops

LIving with this is hell, there are days that I cannot walk because of the pain and stiffness in my knees and snkles. My doctor at the va states that it is my Fibrom. that is affecting my legs but I feel that it must be something else along with the Fibrom. She wants to issue me a wheelchair but the physical therapy dept. does not want to give it to me, since when does a physical therapist oversees the authority of a doctor.

I cannot believe that there is not some other more serious disease working if your fibro is putting you in a wheelchair. It sounds like PAD or PN. Did you ever have a back injury or do you have DMII?

I had an EMG done at the VA which stated that I have mild sensory neuropathy. i do not know if that his also contributing to my problem. What does PAD stand for. My va doctor mentioned that I should contact medicare and see if she writes a prescription for a wheelchair will I be able to get one through medicare. I guess I need to call them to see what they say. Buy the way I have never had a back injury nor I have diabettes that what I now so far.

John,

Fibromyalgia is not just the "psychological condition" that docs used to believe it was. It is increasingly more acknowledged in the medical community as a legitimate medical (rheumatological) condition. It literally impacts your ability to function physically to a degree that a wheelchair could be necessary. Do an internet search on Fibro and check out the "new" medical information out there.

That said, Windy City, it doesn't mean that something else is not going on. Like I said previously, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, as well as myofascial pain syndrome, both as secondary to my primary medical condition. So, it is possible to have something else going on. Perhaps you should consider seeing a good rheumatologist.

PAD is Peripheral Artery Disease, which effects the legs. Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) can be contributing to some of your discomfort, as well.

Thanks for everybody's input on this topic, I am going to call my civilian doctor and ask her to send me to see a specialist because in my heart I feel not only is FMS is affecting my legs but there must be something else. I have seen the va rheumatologist and neurologist and belieave me they are a joke all they say that it is my FMS. If I do not do something I will end up in a wheelchair and that Is the last thing my wife and I want to.
