Help! Need My Ssa Records

Rate this question

Done wit this

Question

 OK,

I told my Vet Rep that I need my medical exam records from the SSA and they tryed to get them.

He got back to me today and said that his office tryed and the SSA said that the state veterans

counselor was not recognized as a legal rep so they could not get them.

Now that I have found that out! How do I go about getting these records or copys of the exams

given buy there doctors?

These will help in all of my claims if I can get them,so I can submit them as evidence.

So I come here and ask the great Knowledge bank of HADIT Again. Help!

Thanks for you help and time in advance!

Goto the SSA website and locate your local SSA office.

Call the local number for your office.

Request a copy of your SSDI file.

If it is located locally they will be able to get it done in little time.

If it is in the repository, it may take a few weeks.

They may or may not charge you for the file, I had to pay around 100 bucks for mine.

Some people have managed to get them free, so its a hit or miss type thing.

Should be pretty straight forward.

Have you thought of writing to Social Security yourself and asking for them and explaining to them why you need them.

I have always found Social Security to be very helpful in the state of Virginia.

macool - there are a couple of ways to get them; 1.) file an FOIA request, 2.) contact that SS office that handles your claim and request to view your file and then have them make a copy of what you need for you, while you're there. SS frequently tries non-compliance so you must be persistent.

For what its worth SSA does not turn lose of their records very easily. The best time is to request them when the initial exam is done. I can't even get a copy of my initial award letter.
