donews
Goto the SSA website and locate your local SSA office. Call the local number for your office. Request a copy of your SSDI file. If it is located locally they will be able to get it done in little time. If it is in the repository, it may take a few weeks. They may or may not charge you for the file, I had to pay around 100 bucks for mine. Some people have managed to get them free, so its a hit or miss type thing. Should be pretty straight forward. Macool Have you thought of writing to Social Security yourself and asking for them and explaining to them why you need them. I have always found Social Security to be very helpful in the state of Virginia. Betty
HadIt.com Elder Philip Rogers Posted April 19, 2008 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted April 19, 2008 macool - there are a couple of ways to get them; 1.) file an FOIA request, 2.) contact that SS office that handles your claim and request to view your file and then have them make a copy of what you need for you, while you're there. SS frequently tries non-compliance so you must be persistent. pr
HadIt.com Elder Pete53 Posted April 19, 2008 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted April 19, 2008 For what its worth SSA does not turn lose of their records very easily. The best time is to request them when the initial exam is done. I can't even get a copy of my initial award letter.
HadIt.com Elder Philip Rogers Posted April 20, 2008 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted April 20, 2008 Peter - for what it's worth, you need to file a written FOIA request. They are required by federal law to give them to you. pr
