Hearing Date Set

Question

My husband received a letter with his hearing date for August 12. One day before the letter arrived, he got a phone call from a lady at the adjucation and review dept., asking him when he was treated at the VA. He told her for yrs. and then had to tell her how to get his records. I hope they have them before the trial date. Anyway, he has never had any kind of exam from SS, like a mental exam or heart exam or anything. Is this normal? Do they sometimes make a decision without exams ordered from them?

thanks,

sbrewer

Thanks everyone for your response.

Allan,

We get copies of his VA records just about every other month, so I do intend to take them with us. I was really curious though as to why they never ordered an exam or anything. It seems in reading other post, people are always discussing the exam that SS sent them to.

thanks,

sbrewer

If SSA knows your already determined unemployable by the DVA or 100% disabled with the DVA, it's sometimes just a phone call to the DVA to verify and an examination wouldnt be needed. I've read this somewhere, but cant remember & much of my collected research is on a computer with the power supply out. They will still deny it once or twice to thin out the crowd, but a hearing before the ALJ usually gets it resolved.

Hang in there.

Sbrewer, I was approved for SSDI in 10 weeks and never had an exam from S.S. They based their decision on VA and other medical records. All of the medical records were fairly recent. I was using Allsup and they filled out all paper work from S.S. after consulting with me on the answers. So yes, it is possible to be approved without an exam.
