Use Of Civilian Phyciatrists

Rate this question

Question

Anyone use a phyciatrist in a non post tramatic stress syndrome claim. Attorney says with my lack of sight, I would be surprised how much it effects other different areas of my life (for example my vision problems effect my social skills, learning, playing sports, etc.) My attorney wants to use a phyciatrist to help further my claim. I said ok until the phyciatrist quoted me $1500.00. Not sure if it's a waste of time and money.

Please no negative feedback necessary !

Itate:

I suspect that you were in an elevated mood cause you were seeing a Doc that you wanted to. This resulted in a mistake on Doc's part on GAF. GAF is only an educated guess at how you are doing.

Good Luck

You may also use a " phycologist " ( spelling?? ) that is sympathetic to a Veterans' claim and who will understand how the VA system works. Ask you VSO to recommend you one. I am going thru the same deal. His rates are more reasonable per session.

I used a psychologist who had experience with SS claims. Cost me a couple thousand dollars between the office visits (several), IMO review (a couple), and actual report. His hourly rate was $150 and he charged actual hours spent talking with me and actual hours spent writing and revising the report which I thought was fair enough since that is his usual way of doing business (being paid for hours worked).

Getting the IMO paid for itself in the first couple of months of benefits after my appeal when I went from the low ball 50% the VA awarded me initially and the 100% P&T they awarded me after my IMO so, in my opinion, a good IMO is worth whatever it costs.

Plus, you're putting a lot on the line using an attorney so I'd be inclined to follow his instructions.

Good luck and keep us posted.
