Claim Decided On March 10th. Now What?

Question

I called the 1-800 number on Friday and the rep told me that my claim had been finalized and given a rating on Tuesday, March 10th! She said she could not see what it was though. How long until I see or hear anything in writing? I filed my claim mid-August under the "pre-discharge" program. Don't know the actual name. I retired Nov 1st. Thanks!

Congratulations. Hopefully, the rating will be what you were looking for. You should receive something within 30 days as long as it does not involve a significant retro payment. Then it has to go through more people before it is approved and you are notified. Try using the IRIS to find out your award. I think they may provide you with more info than the 1-800 line. I would just straight out ask them if they can provide you with what percentage you were awarded and when you might start receiving benefits. Good luck and again, I hope you are happy with the outcome.

If it was rated she could see it, thats # 1. With the Benefit Delivery at Discharge (BDD) claims everything is in virtual VA. Paperless! If it was indeed done on Tuesday you should have your rating within the next day or so. Check your bank account because with this program the money may get there before the letter. Thats the way the BBD system works. Once the claim is adjudicated the money is released.

I got a decision on Jan. 13, 2004, and I am still waiting, so you can probably expect another 5 to 10 years, realistically to get your check. The VA is the slowest moving thing on earth. Dont hold your breath for anything, be suprised if/when it comes. Some get it sooner than me.

Thanks, all!

Broncovet, that long of a wait does not apply to a person just retiring from the military.

Sharon, what's funny is I asked her if she could see anything regarding my rating and she said "no". She was really nice. She actually told me that I should hear something in the next couple of weeks. Go figure. :-)

I'm going to use IRIS now.

I have lots of sucess by calling the 1800 number and asking them my curent rateing. Call the 1800 number and ask them what your curent rateing is. Remember as a retire you need 50 percent for CRDP.

Delay, Delay, Delay another thousand Vets will die today. This has been almost a 9 year trip thru the VA maze.
