Still Being Paid W/o Dependents

Rate this question

Question

I sent in the form 21-686c with initial award and now being awarded rest of appeal without dependents...still.

How long does it take for VA to process this form adding dependents?

Do I get the retro for them, also?

Got SOC...not award letter, yet. But on Friday I did get call from accounting about "substantially large" retro check and they were needing my direct deposit info. I already sent that into to them when I filed.

My main concerns now are about getting dependents added.

What other benefits come along with a 100% P&T benefit award?

Thanks, in advance, for your responses!

Thanks broncovet, I guess I should have known that it wasn't going to get any easier.

Dang, a couple of years for dependents to be added...that's crazy...one of them will almost be out of high school in a couple of years.

I called the toll free number every day. They didn't need to ask my name or

Social. I received my husbands within 2 months.

I was quite the pest.

Again, this is only my experience. After 7 long years on this one

claim, I became extremely upset with the VA. I had nothing to do

but pester them, for they treated me so badly.

Always,

Betty

Well, as Grace would have it, I received my award letter/package yesterday and my dependents have been added. Yahooooooooooo! I am so glad the VARO here is on the ball so far. Once they decided the claim in my favor...it has been pretty timely.

I know you were treated really bad, Betty, but those days are now behind you and we are happy for you...STILL!!!

I believe that birth certificates to add your children and a marriage certificate to add your wife are required to be sent to V.A. in support of your claim to add your dependents. I suspect you are talking about a declaration on the status of dependents form.

The VA can/does manipulate the effective date of dependent benefits also. They are trying to avoid paying me for dependents prior to 2006.

I am nailing them on this issue, because I looked at my original application and it shows that I have dependents.

The decision, in 2005 said I was a single Veteran, with no dependents, and they are trying to give me crap that decision became final a year later, so I dont get any dependents.

However, I am going to file a CUE, if I have to.

Clearly, I had dependents in 2005, and they knew or should have known about it by reading my application. The VA shredded some of my documents, possibly those that included my dependents.

I have filed for "special claims handling" because my original application listed my dependents.
