Question

I have an EMG on June 23. I have never had one before but I have saw it done on on my brother and it was very painfull, I left the room before it was completd. The doctor didn't appear to know what he was doing as he had to call to get his equipment working properly or to learn how to operate it. Either way it was not a plesant visit. My question, is this a painfull procedure and will it help my claim as I am applying for TDIU. Will the va do this procedure in a c&p if so one is all I want to take. I do not tolerate pain very well.

Thanks Purple. I really needed to hear that. Now I will be on pins and needles until June, But I do have to have this done so I will go thru with it and see what happens. My wife says I can go thru anything, funny, I don't always fell that way. Thanks for an honest answer. At any rate the pain won't last forever.

Have you ever seen those carnival games in which you hold onto a couple of metal handles as long as you can, while the voltage is raised higher and higher, until you have to let go. it's not like that at all, it's worse, the voltage is usually high to begin with, so they can measure how long the nerve signal takes to travel a specified distance and you are in no position to let go of any handles because the examiner has control of everything.

Don't worry, their not sadist, the pain from the shock doesn't last to long, LoL At least now I can be assured the weakness in my left hand and arm are not from a stroke, but rather from disk impengment of nerve clusters and bony spurs.

Good luck and post how you found the experience, I need a good humor day. ;)

Hello Trail,,,,, Your upcoming EMG....Electro Myography ,will be most beneficial to your doctors and possibly with your claim. I presume that you have Peripheral Neuropathy or another Neurological problem. This test will show the amount of damage , mild, moderated , severe. Though it is painful ......it just made me jump alot and say things like ohhh, aahhhh, eehhhhh,,,,yoowwww. You will do fine and the test can help you and your claim. I have had 4 Electromyographys and 4 Needle nerve conductivity test, also painful. 3 by the VA and one by a private Specialist. All three show mild to now moderate PN. My Podiatrist says it is severe. Remember that these results may be used to properly propel your claim and help in deciding it. I would try and get an outside doctor and get and IMO from him if possible. God Bless, and remember to NEVER GIVE UP. C.C.

An EMG is not painful it is just a little shocky as your nerves are electrified abd they jump like a firing method.

There is also a test called a NCS that involves needles inserted into muscles. Now that one is about a painful as they come. I had it done several tiumes, even inthe diaphragm and I can tell you it is worse than waterboarding to get someone to talk.

A Veteran is a person who served this country. Treat them with respect.

A Disabled Veteran is a person who served this country and bears the scars of that service regardless of when or where they served.

Treat them with the upmost respect. I do. Rejection is not a sign of failure. Failure is not an option, Medical opinions and evidence wins claims. Trust in others is a virtue but you take the T out of Trust and you are left with Rust so be wise about who you are dealing with.

I have had several of them and as Purple posted, they do hurt,

but they are worth it when it is over.

Sometimes it is the only way to locate a medical condtion.

The EMG helped the doctor tell me what I didn't have and that

my conditon was nothing serious.

Knowing this was worth the discomfort.

Always,

Betty
