Request Suggestions For Pending Homelessness

Rate this question

Question

I am a female veteran in Georgia who will be homeless in about 2 weeks because I was discharged unfairly and have been unable to get work. The VA homeless Network has not been helpful. In part because I am a female and there aren't a lot of female beds. I am not psychiatrically sick nor a drug/alcoohol abuser.

Any suggestions are appreciated. i am scared.

In a time of a very controversial war, I'm willing to bet you can drum up media support if you word your story carefully. Basically, let it be known that you are out of the military and that you only want an honest job for honest pay, but the military/VA will not help you. Sounds like a media goldmine if you can get someone to publish it.

.

StarVista888:

The very first place that I would start would be with the churches. They usually know what will be available in your area.

Then .. depending on what city in Georgia ... I would look at the different agencies .... churches there are a good place to start too.

Good luck and can you give us more info ??

I have documents proving fraud as well as a conspiracy to commit fraud. I had these documents a local news station in Indianapolis as well as a local station in Eugenen, Or.. I have also talked to people at FOX and MSNBC and nobody would touch the subject. The best explaination I got was this:

If the records th VA produces are dishonest and you hae years of such dishonest documentation, then the only documents the news could get would not necessarily be accurate and the time it would take to get to the truth is not financialy worth it to the powers that be.

To make a long story short it's like this, if you lost your life, a limb, your mind, or a loved one, it is not profitable for anyone to put it on TV. What was about patriotism to you is about profit to others and if it wasn't for veterans helping veterans, there would be no help at all. I do not want to step out of line here but afer fighting this system since 1989, after losing my house and my children, after having my family tur there backs on me because they believed the VA. I have come to the conclusion that a country hat treats it's veterans this way and a socety that allows this to happen, deserves niether it's veterans or the protection they provide.

I beleve disabled/disgruntled veterans should start marching for there rights. Organize and make the news pay attention. I hope this does not offend anybody but in truth, I have been offended for years.

I consider myself an American, wondering where America went.

You are so right - it's all in the wording, I know the VISN 7 Director is running scared because he is handling my "case" himself which probably means his lawyers are working overtime trying to figure out how to get out from under all this.

I was discharged for standing up to a coworker Psychologist about my PTSD Disability.

He presented me as If I were psychotic to the discharge Board and has continued to pass on malicious info to prospective employers - thus my current homelessness.

A Psychologist coworker that hates you is capable of doing tremendous harm if you are also a health care provider and especially one with PTSD which he can explot. He is a Bottom Feeder. That is the nicest thing I can say. I am scared... I will use the resources I have found on this Boarf. Thank you to all!

    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.

They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.

      This is not true,

      Proof:

About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends.

Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken.

A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did.

I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
    • Welcome to hadit!

There are certain rules about community care reimbursement, and I have no idea if you met them or not.  Try reading this:

      https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-emergency-care-at-non-va-facilities/

However, (and I have no idea of knowing whether or not you would likely succeed) Im unsure of why you seem to be so adamant against getting an increase in disability compensation.

When I buy stuff, say at Kroger, or pay bills, I have never had anyone say, "Wait!  Is this money from disability compensation, or did you earn it working at a regular job?"  Not once.  Thus, if you did get an increase, likely you would have no trouble paying this with the increase compensation.

However, there are many false rumors out there that suggest if you apply for an increase, the VA will reduce your benefits instead.

That rumor is false but I do hear people tell Veterans that a lot.  There are strict rules VA has to reduce you and, NOT ONE of those rules have anything to do with applying for an increase.

Yes, the VA can reduce your benefits, but generally only when your condition has "actually improved" under ordinary conditions of life.

Unless you contacted the VA within 72 hours of your medical treatment, you may not be eligible for reimbursement, or at least that is how I read the link, I posted above. Here are SOME of the rules the VA must comply with in order to reduce your compensation benefits:

    • Good question.

Maybe I can clear it up.

The spouse is eligible for DIC if you die of a SC condition OR any condition if you are P and T for 10 years or more.  (my paraphrase).

      More here:

      Source:

      https://www.va.gov/disability/dependency-indemnity-compensation/

NOTE:   TO PROVE CAUSE OF DEATH WILL LIKELY REQUIRE AN AUTOPSY.  This means if you die of a SC condtion, your spouse would need to do an autopsy to prove cause of death to be from a SC condtiond.    If you were P and T for 10 full years, then the cause of death may not matter so much.
