cadillacjack305
John in some states if you are rated incompetent you can not own fire arms. You might want to look in to that. I was having the same thing done to me that they are doing to you and I found that out. Luckily I was found competent.
cadillacjack305
From my understanding the VA interviews the person you are going to assign to handle your money and they will have to account how they spent your money later on down the road. If you don't have a person to sign your money over to they will employ someone to do it for you like a lawyer. I think the whole competency thing is just a hassle for some but for the people who really don't know where their money is being spent I think it is a good thing. I read in to it for about a week till I found out they said I was competent. I don't think being labeled incompetent is something you might want unless your bed bound, suicidal, paralyzed, that sort of thing.
*Bergie*
Could someone explain how this incompetence thing works after a fiduciary is assigned? What if the husband and wife have a joint account where the money is deposited. Or what if the wife just turns around and gives the husband the money. It seems to me that after a fiduciary is assigned the wife and husband can work things out however they want. I guess my question here is how does the VA verify the wife is handling the funds and not him? I'm just confused on how this all works just in case i'm declared incompetent on my next exam. Just try reading your own posts?
jerrbilly
Thanks Jack, the main thing that's worrisome for me is what if the person that you propose to be you fiduciary ends up being reckless with your money. When it comes to money the only person I would trust is my mother but she's having troubles of her own. We'll see, I have always been declared competent but it only takes one exam for this to change everything. jerr I think the whole competency thing is just a hassle for some but for the people who really don't know where their money is being spent I think it is a good thing. JOHN1
I was told by 1-800 my letter for my decision, which was made 2 weeks ago and an "incompetency was proposed" has not been released yet. 1-800 said this was unusual for them to hold it this long and maybe they were looking into something else. WHY? I an confused. John
