Question

Below are web-sites that provide information on Veterans benefits and how to file/ask for them. Accordingly, there are many sites that explain how to obtain books, military/medical records, information and how to appeal a denied claim with the VA. Please pass this information on to every Veteran you know. Nearly 100% of this information is free and available for all veterans, the only catch is: you have to ask for it, because they won't tell you about a specific benefit unless you ask for it. You need to know what questions to ask so the right doors open for you -- and then be ready to have an advocate who is willing to work with and for you, stay in the process, and press for your rights and your best interests.

Just browsing your links (great links by the way) and came across the one on VHA Publications. Went looking within that and found this link which could be very helpful to those going in for a a C&P for Mental Health. It is the

QUALIFICATIONS FOR EXAMINERS PERFORMING COMPENSATION AND PENSION (C&P) MENTAL DISORDER EXAMINATIONS

Here's the link that I found by browsing that great list of links.

http://www1.va.gov/vhapublications/ViewPub...asp?pub_ID=1391

I have definitely bookmarked that VHA Publications Link on its own, but also this topic since it has all those great links.

I might put some on my website next time I revise so there are added researching resources.

Thank you for posting.

That might apply at some VAMC's but not at mine. Last month my friend had his initial C and P exam for depression and a physicians assistant did it and then a regular doctor signed it. The same p.a. did mine in dec for chronic pain syndrome (supposedly psychiatric condition) and same doctor signed it. If you have an associates degree, you can do a c and p for anything.

blanco,

Are you positive that the doctor that signed off was not a MH provider ?

I disagree, just having an Associates degree does not meet the criteria

to do a C&P for ANYTHING, not even most types of C&P's.

I think I got the information below right off the exam worksheet. I use this information when seeking an IMO.

The following health care providers can perform review examinations.

a board-certified psychiatrist or board "eligible" psychiatrist;

a licensed doctorate-level psychologist;

a doctorate-level mental health provider under close supervision of a board-certified or board eligible psychiatrist or licensed doctorate-level psychologist;

a psychiatry resident under close supervision of a board-certified or board eligible psychiatrist or licensed doctorate-level psychologist;

a clinical or counseling psychologist completing a one year internship or residency (for purposes of a doctorate-level degree) under close supervision of a board-certified or board eligible psychiatrist or licensed doctorate-level psychologist;

a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), a nurse practitioner, a clinical nurse specialist, or a physician assistant, if they are clinically privileged to perform activities required for C&P mental disorder examinations, under close supervision of a board-certified or board eligible psychiatrist or doctorate-level psychologist. .

I was just joking and being sarcastic about the associates degree. I know you must have at least have a 4 year degree to do a C and P. The doctor that signed off is not a MH provider. She has also signed off on my past C and P exams for migraines and my friend's C and P's for chloracne and ulcerative colitis. This p.a. and doc team are great together, C and P's for depression, chr pain syn, migraines, chloracne, and colitis and that's just for two veterans.
