Question

ive had it twice and have been hospitalized for it, well alot more than twice, but only dxed twice as i didnt seek treatment, they were either RO paranoid schizophrenia orNOS whatever that means. Ive got a claim in for schizophrenia, but maybe i should have one in for psychosis too. I thank god i was never diagnosed with a PD or i would be screwed

damn just looked over my medical notes and i did get a GAF of 10, i was really messed up followed by one of 20 then a 34 and 45 but on all my paperwork from the VA it says psychosis NOS R/O schizophrenia, so this is not good, because they didn't dx me with schizophrenia they were ruling it out, so maybe i should just put in a claim for psychosis

Hula Matt,

RO means "rule out" as in rule out paranoid schizo which means they think that might be it or might not but they can't currently figure it out and have to look to rule it out as a dx meaning you may have another dx that is more appropriate.

I think NOS means not otherwise specified as in your psychosis doesn't fit neatly into any particular dx.

You mention multiple episodes of psychosis as well as suicidal ideation - have you ever been diagnosed with bipolar disorder? It is on the continum with schizophrenia and may be a more accurate dx depending on your sx.

Look at the DSM-IV and read up on both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and overlay what you read with your mental health history and see what you think.

Just something to consider.

Good luck,

TS Snave

nope never been diagnosed bipolar, dont really think i am, i just have hallucinations bizzare ideation delusions, pretty much everythign that falls into the schizocatagory, i dont really have ups and downs, well i mean everyone does, but its not bad like it is for bipolar
