  • Can a 100 percent Disabled Veteran Work and Earn an Income?

    employment 2.jpeg

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

Help With Rating

Question

Hello everyone. I just had a few questions about what my rating should be. I went through the C&P for disability and it lasted about 2 and half hours, she would ask me questions and I would answer them. I read these forums and see there is a "GAF" percentile but I never received one, it that a flag I should worry about? Ok, now to the issues I am having and what I told to the Doc. I keep hearing conversations in my head over and over and over, it ranges from the things that happen to me in Iraq or just someone out to get me. I also relive some of the moments that happened in Iraq and also see this person that is not really there. I was exposed to many IEDs and small arms fire. I have been diagnosed with PTSD by a neuron syc, TBI doc, and a psychiatrists, also have been diagnosed with TBI. I have medical documents from Iraq that support everything. I have lost my job and my grades in college are just horrible. I can't remember anything and it's causing me problems in my relationship. My next question is what should my rating be, I took the exam 2 weeks ago when should I hear something back. Thanks everyone, also you guys need more info please ask, this is really hard for me to try and post things on here. God bless!

Armyvet,

Welcome to Hadit.com

I would guess you will get SC'd for PTSD at either 50 or 70 percent.

Other's will chime in.

If I understand you correctly your compensation and pension exam was two weeks ago, is that correct? If so you are in for a bit of a wait. Now don't be discouraged this is the system we are in. The c and p exam results have to be received by the VARO and your SMR's need to be returned and then it waits for someone to review it to see that all the information is there when they are satisfied that they have all the information they need it will go to decisions and then it will go to notifications. The fastest I've heard of is from the date it was sent to decision is 28 days and longest, well you don't want to know the longest it's discouraging though it ended with enormous retro pay.

So pace yourself and if you don't have a therapist get one, you need help dealing with the symptoms you describe, if you have weapons in the house get rid of them since you can trust what is happening is really happening. Your claim is paper work thing, but you are the important one you must get help if you don't already have and you need to tell them all the symptoms you are having be honest and tell them, they can't help if they don't know what hell you are going through. Most of all Hang In You Are Not Alone.

Thanks for the reply, I am going to a therapist every two weeks, it seem to help. Talking with someone that understands what you are saying is very helpful.

    • I would like to meet other Hadit members who live in Michigan.  We have at least two major VA Hospitals (Battle Creek, Ann Arbor).  Or maybe you go to the the John Dingell in Detroit.

I like Ann Arbor.  I like the fact that most of the doctors there are also at the UM Hospital.  I don't like how uickly they seem to turn over though.

    • Really?
I am confused.  A few days ago I spoke to a person at a VARO who said if I die from something other than service-connected my husband gets zero, zilch, squat.  Hmmmmmm, it seems the rules change willy-nilly...I have been rated 100% P & T for over 10 years, MS is static, and I am 56 years of age.

Can a fellow Veteran shed a light on this?

      Thank you.

The site is supported through ads and ad free subscriptions, we are also asking for any support you would like to send our way. You can give a $1 or more it all helps. Keep in mind though that it is NOT tax deductible and we are NOT a non profit. As the site grows so do the costs and ads and subscription do not always keep pace with the costs. Any help is appreciated, but not required.
