Question

Diagnosed with hypertension on active duty- within a year my medical records document the following readings:

146/99

143/101

158/111

148/107

144/100

Most visits saw an increase in dosage to attempt to bring my BP under control- this is stated in the records.

With these readings do I have a fighting chance that the VA could grant me SC? I'm just trying to get my medication taken care for this condition?

Got a letter from the VA today stating that they're requesting official copies of my treatment from my civilian provider. It also says they have "requested an examination through a private medical facility in order to determine the current level of your disability." Is that a tip of hat indicating its probably service connected, or just standard VA-speak?

It is just SOP.

Do you have any indications of HBP in your service medical records?

If so, have you had consistent HBP treatment for it since leaving the mil?

VA is quick to say HBP is "essential

hypertension"

meaning they don't know the cause of it or they can say it is due to a non SC condition.

Do you have any pending claims for any other condition that, if Service connected- might have caused the HBP?

Its listed as essential hypertension but its definitely in my SMR. The diagnosis was made on active duty and then reaffirmed by another military doctor in SMR. I also have a documented history of steadily increasing medication dosages.

It sounds like a good claim. The HBP ratings are in the VA Schedule of Ratings which is here at hadit.

Gee-I couldnt find the Schedule of Ratings here but this link will do it:

http://ecfr.gpoaccess.gov/cgi/t/text/text-idx?c=ecfr&sid=d0ba0dea5c2db2b1247e98e07ca7a10a&rgn=div6&view=text&node=38:1.0.1.1.5.2&idno=38

Go to Diagnostic code 7101 for how they rate HBP.

What happens when you are taking a med, a moderately strong dose (Diovan 320-12.5 mg) at that, to keep the pressure down below what is listed in the diagnostic code 7101?
