I heard if you are 10% for your knee and then you have surgery, after that the VA will take the 10% away.

It also depends on which type surgery were talking about. i.e. TKR Total Knee Replacement would be automatic 30%, and like John said, any residuals could bump it up to 60%. This is how it started with me after I was rated 10% for my knee.
