coastie72
I am on Novalin insulin 70/30 that requires refrigeration until put into use, then it will keep up to 42 days at room temperature or below 77 degrees. I have been going to the clinic about every 10 days for a few months to get my numbers under control. The last visit I needed a refill and I was told they would mail it. I agreed even though I could have gotten it the same day from the Pharmacy at my VAMC. I only live a few miles away. So it was mailed USPS in a regular envelope from my VAMC. The weather here has been touching 100 degrees nearly every day. So this medicine was in transit 2 days and sat in my mailbox at over 100 degrees that particular day for many hours. That was on a Saturday so Monday I called the clinic and was told that it should be okay???????? Then I was told that "maybe" I could get it replaced on my next visit. I'm not going to use it so what a waste of money. 6 vials. I'll get my personal Dr. to write a prescription if needed and I'll buy it.
green
Coastie, they send my insulin in an insulated container with frozen packets to keep it cool. I have received it from three different states and it has always been shipped this way. Seems like your pharmacy didn't follow VA protocol Green georgiapapa
