I think Teejay is asking as the widow of a veteran.

There are some very good Insurance companies out there.

AARP ofers both whole and term life Insurance and also Companion Life is excellent.

I personally suggest whole life -it is more expensive then term but more advantegeous in many ways.

I guess John Hancock Life Insurance might be out of business- not sure.

For decades I was very happy with life insurance I had with them. Then suddenly I found I was in a classaction case against them and they had to refund thousands of premiums I had paid due to misrepresentation of their services and I had to obtain policies with new companies. I stared with them in 1965 when a JH person would come to my house to collect the premiums and then also write up any new policies I bought. The class action occurred about 10 years ago and rocked the world of life insurance as JH had had an excellent reutation to that point.

It pays to careflly read over any life insurance contracts.Call the company with any questions you might have.

When I die my daughter will not receive a veteran's exception on my farm for the property tax bill.I get 2 survivors veteran's exceptions now.

I have one Life Insurance policy that is solely designated in my death file to cover the property taxes here for about ten years after I die.

She might well want to keep the farm as a vacation home but sales of real estate dont move fast these days so that too was a factor when I bought this additional policy, to keep those taxes paid if she does put it on the market.

My Insurance premiums for whole life are high but I consider them as forced savings and investments.

I even borrowed 2 thousand from one policy years many ago when I bought an expensive thoroubred horse and paid that back into the policy value with a very low interest rate.

Loan values are something that build in time with whole life-maybe with term life too-

ANY type of life insurance is a good inverstment in my opinion.

There are plenty of Insurance Copanys on Google and they have ratings as to how good they are.
