How Do I Get A Prescription Filled If Va Is Closed?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone:

What if it's a weekend and I'm in an emergency room and the doctor gives me a prescription that I need filled right away?

I don't have a prescription plan.

I am 100% T&P.

How does the VA prescription program operate?

Thanks for the info.

Mike S.

If you get a prescription they VAMC will have a night time pharmacy that is open when the regulart pharmacy is not. It is usually nothing fancy just a door that you walk throug. Ask anyone in ER and they will tell you where it is.

Veterans deserve real choice for their health care.

When I had fee service I could use it to pay for prescriptions but limited to 125 bucks in an emergency. If your VAMC does not have a night pharmacy you should ask what they will allow.

Mike,

Every VAMC - ER I have gone to - fills the RX for the veteran thru the pharmacy and provides

it to me, prior to discharge from the ER.

Also, you say you have no RX plan and you're 100 % SC P&T . . . .

VA will do your RX's at no charge - if it's from an outside doc

I think you go thru a PCP at the VAMC.

Carlie passed away in November 2015 she is missed.

For all who are rated A&A their outside prescriptions have to be filled by VA Pharmacy and does not need PCP to write a new one.
