Medicare With Champva

Rate this question

Question

this may be one Berta can answer since I think she uses both. My wife is currently using a Medicare Advantage provider. But with her now eligible for CHAMPVA. My thought is with re-enrollment next month she should go back to the traditional Medicare A&B to use CHAMPVA in conjunction with CHAMPVA. Yes or no? She submitted her enrollment papers to CHAMPVA last month.

I'd recommend that you find out if the medical providers your wife uses accept CHAMPVA before you make a decision.

Payment from CHAMPVA has been a problem, and not a few refuse it in my area.

ChampVA is a beautiful policy. First you have to have Medicare A&B if you use Medicare. Also anyone who accepts Medicare must accept ChampVA its the rules. We pay a copay of 25% on meds but they are not medicare prices but the hard ball US Government prices. It also lets you use generic or brand. They even pay for a formulated medicine my wife takes.

At every VA Hospital they have someone who helps with ChampVA. I recommend that you visit with them.

You can also check or enroll on web

Good Luck and it lasts for life.

Chuck-I am surprised to hear that.

Then again, good idea to check and see if the doctors accept CHAMPVA.

The CHAMPVA site has this info on providers:

Their main page has excellent links to info:

deanbrt-I have Medicare A & B and CHAMPVA and have not had any problems at all with payments.

I only take one med 2 times a week at a low dose and I pay 20 bucks for it and CHAMPVA pays the rest (80 bucks I think-atoravastin) with a small annual co pay I make once a year.(50 Bucks)

The only thing it doesn't cover are my orthotics and eye glassess. But it covers podiatrist bills and optometrist tests.

I have never had a single problem with this program.

I wish veterans could get CHAMPVA.

I don't like to presume too much (really, I don't), but ,,,,

I presume CHAMPVA/Medicare is similar to TriCareForLife (TFL)

Medicare is the primary payer and TFL secondary.

Who pays first, Berta? Medicare and CHAMPVA picks up the rest or will Liz use Champva first?
