carlie
Yes, many times they are co-morbid. All SC'd mental health disorders are comped together for one evaluation percentage.
Moderator broncovet Posted January 26, 2013 Moderator Share Posted January 26, 2013 (edited) MH claims are rated the same..by symptoms. For example, in the 100% category, there is "total occupational and social" impairment. In this example, if you could not work, you would have total occupational impairment. However, you would not be paid for "total occupational impairment" for BOTH PTSD and Depression. One or the other. They didn't BOTH cause you to be "at least as likely as not" unemployable. It reminds me of dependency for IRS purposes. In the case of divorce, the decree often states which parent gets to declare the child as a dependent. The IRS will throw a fit if both parents try to claim they contribute more than 50% of the childs support. With multiple mental health conditions, the same thing applies. Back to the example, EITHER your PTSD or your Depression caused you to be unemployable, but not both. It violates what the VA calls "pyramiding" and the VA is absolutely anal about compensating a Vet twice. They will deny 500 Vets to make sure that ONE isnt collecting benefits twice for two different maladies. Berta
If your rating is 100% or TDIU for these conditions, it is always possible that the depression has given you agoraphobia and has made you Housebound. At 80% now, are you still employed?
