Ssdi And Dependants?

Question

I've read on a sight that SSDI will also give your spouse, and minor children a payment each month as well. I applied for SSDI about 5 months ago so i'm not too familiar with this whole system.

Does anybody know about this and how it is awarded/paid/calculated?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know about Spouse but the minor children will usually get about 50% of what you would get, each child.

Fiasco, I am no expert, but shouldn't you more concerned about them denying you claim. You state that you are on active duty in the AF. Unless you are on some kind of medical leave you haven't mentioned, It appears you are still working for disability purposes.JMHO.

Best wishes.

SSDI awards you a monthly amount.

Then they figure dependant children and spouse taking care of the clildren under 16. (Spouse cut when youngest kid hits 16)

There is a family maximum. Take your SSDI and subtract it from the family maximum. The kids draw up to the family max limit. for example if you draw 1000 and your family maximum is 2000 and you have 2 under age 18 kids then they get 500 each. add the spouse if the kids are under 16 then all 3 get 333. When the kids get 16 the spouse gets kicked off and they kids get raised back to 500 until they get booted at 18.

Sounds complicated.

A Veteran is a person who served this country. Treat them with respect.

A Disabled Veteran is a person who served this country and bears the scars of that service regardless of when or where they served.

Treat them with the upmost respect. I do. Rejection is not a sign of failure. Failure is not an option, Medical opinions and evidence wins claims. Trust in others is a virtue but you take the T out of Trust and you are left with Rust so be wise about who you are dealing with.

They can deny all they want, but I will just refile. There are many many active duty disabled vets who are on their way out, and are getting paid for it. I'm not trying to be rude, i'm just saying. Even on their web site, they say income isnt a determining factor. Its if you can work or not.

Sorry, my last post sounded kind of rude. It wasnt meant to be.

If you go to the website and read the publication, they're explicit in not waiting to apply, especially if you meet their criteria. It tells you right there what they consider disabled.

Hey fiasco, I wasn't trying get smart with you. When I filed for disability from the civilian side of the Federal gov. they required me to file for SSDI. I filed for SSDI on a computer while I was at work on light duty after back surgery. They turned me down. NO big deal right? I got SSDI when I applied four years latter. The problem is when I file for TDUI with the VA in 2010 they used my SSDI records against me i.e.since SSDI said I could do some kind of sedentary work. I was not eligible for TDUI.

I want you to get approved for SSDI. I wasn't clear about that at all. Here are my suggestions: If denied SSDI, make sure your doctor's explain that you are unemployable, not just unable to do your military job. I would not reapply until you are discharged from service or st least on terminal leave. As soon as you get your SSDI apply for TDUI, if you don't get 100% from the VA anyway.

I want you and your family to get every benefit you are entitled too! Plan, research, ask questions and get it all right the first time. I didn't do that. I just don't want you tangled up in the mess which is the VA appeals process.

Sincerely, you have my best wishes.

Mike.
