Does The Va Raise Vets Ratings Automatically Each Year?

Rate this question

Question

I was denied a raise to my raise (50% PTSD) and after alot of talk & time, I think I just want to sit back & wait on a ratings increase instead of fighting the system. so does anyone know if this is how it works? I realize their are many other ways of trying to get an increase, but does this happen??

All comments appreciated.

Sorry.. but the VA doesn't do automatic ratings increases.... if you think you should be rated higher you have to request it and have the medical evidence to support a ratings increase. If we are lucky we normally get a yearly cost of living raise if the congress passes one, but that isn't automatic either....

Isn't it kinda interesting. In 1988 they lowballed me with a 0% rating for a "bone Condition" using the 5099 code. Now they actually diagnosed me with spinal arthritis(but that is a whole other story). NO FUTURE EXAMS SCHEDULED. Now that I am rated 40% I have future exams scheduled. You have a 22 year old with arthritis in his spine, you know he is going to get worse, but we don't want to check to see if it gets worse. Now that it is worse they have made it quite clear they are going to look at it again later, just in case it gets better.

Snookster, I think I am detecting a misconception in you that I had when I was 22. My view of the VA in 1988 is they were there to help me and they would look out for me. Twenty years later, when I read the C-file, while trying to get an increased rating so they would give me PT, I discovered just how wrong I was.

The VA is not looking out for your interests, it isn't out to get you, but they certainly are not your advocate.

My experience is the VA sits on ratings till the Veteran asks them to look at them,

Veterans deserve real choice for their health care.

PhilipRogers...You know I was asking a very civil question and DO NOT feel I should be laughed at by you or anyone else! If this is how you conduct yourself Philip, I suggest YOU grab your binoculars and look South, and you will just about see MY MIDDLE FINGER pointing straight at you. See if you can laugh about that one!

Yup, I can, but only because "I" have a sense of humor. It was said in jest and not meant to make you look foolish or be laughed at, as I'm sure most here understood. Just to be safe, I think it best I not respond to any of your posts, for fear of upsetting you. I am sorry if I offended you and I raise my same finger, in salute to you, as another VN veteran. May the force be w/you.
