Question

Does anyone know what the disability code is for having Malaria is? I'm trying to submit a claim for Malaria thanks to the jungle warfare training I had, too funny. But anyway I need to know what I need to look up and what they look for like the disability exams. Even through it is in my medical records as having it and been exposed to Malaria The VA tells me that I have to have an attack of Malaria before they can determined what percentage I get and what type of Malaria I have. Right now I'm not being treated for it but because my last attack was back in 1994. Thanks for any information

Diagnostic code 6304

As active disease 100

Note: The diagnosis of malaria depends on the identification of the malarial parasites in blood smears. If the veteran served in an endemic area and presents signs and symptoms compatible with malaria, the diagnosis may be based on clinical grounds alone. Relapses must be confirmed by the presence of malarial parasites in blood smears.

Thereafter rate residuals such as liver or spleen damage under the appropriate system

"Relapses must be confirmed by the presence of malarial parasites in blood smears."

My father, a WWII veteran, was medically released from the army due to malaria, and paid a small disability into the early 1950's.

He had reoccurring malaria bouts into the late1960's. The VA closed it's facilities in the area, sometime in the early 50's and 60's.

The problem was simply that when symptoms started reoccurring, he would start taking whatever medication

that he was given. (A gallon jar of the pills was on his dresser for decades.)

By the time medically related anything could be scheduled with the VA, due to prompt treatment (pills) when symptoms started,

the malaria would be back in remission.
