Question

I am posting this issue, in this forum because I feel it is

the most widely viewed forum.

Lately we are having quite a bit of hijacking on topics / threads.

This is an issue we all need to pay a bit more attention to as it detracts

from helping one another and just starts a bunch of confusion.

What is hijacking ?

"Thread hijacking is the process of replying to an existing thread with a different topic.

This is generally discouraged.

It is better to start a new thread if you have a problem that is related to an existing posted issue but clearly different. Posts that hijack a thread with off-topic discussion are also discouraged."

How about we all try to be a bit more courteous and if what you are going to post

into the OP's topic does not relate to their topic - start a new topic of your own.

Here's an example of topic / thread hijacking from Urban Dictionary.

"Below is a thread, consisting of an original posting and commentson that original posting. They illustrate a thread hijacking.

original posting: I'm so excited that my cat has learned to use the toilet with City Kitty! The training seemed like it took forever, but it's so worth it to not have to deal with a litter box any more! Has anyone else done this?

comment 1: Ugh! I just started training my cat, but he can't seem to move beyond the orange stage. How'd you get through that?

comment 2: I'm training my dog at PetCo classes.

She's very smart. She learns the commands faster than the other dogs.

comment 3: I'm training my dog in PetCo classes too.

They have great trainers. They're patient with the dogs and the people.

Comments 2 and 3 are off topic and are hijacking this thread.

The person who made comment 2 should have started their own thread.

The person who made comment 3 is guilty of continuing the hijacking."

Cute comment PR...I bet you have been getting as frustrated as I have been lately with the hijacks because I usually work on my replys in OffOpenorg and then when I get back to the forum,to paste reply , I forget who I am replying to and even where they were......

Even worse yet is when someone here posts in two or three different forums about 3 different SC problems. It is better to get the big picture all at once in one forum..

But I sure think it must take some time for newbies to get used to this site as there is SO MUCH info here.

Glad you posted this Carlie. It will make things go smoother here.

BTW how do you get emails notices? Do you have to open your email in your profile to get them when someone replies to a post you are following?

Thanks. I used to use that feature but forget now how it works.

GRADUATE ! Nov 2nd 2007 American Military University !

When thousands of Americans faced annihilation in the 1800s Chief

Osceola's response to his people, the Seminoles, was

simply "They(the US Army)have guns, but so do we."

Sameo to us -They (VA) have 38 CFR ,38 USC, and M21-1- but so do we.
