rpowell01
Navy you can fill out the student loan discharge application online then they will give you the address on the bottom of the discharge application that you send a copy of your decision letter to. If you have 100% or even TDIU then you can get just about all your student loans discharged. But remember once they are discharged they will count as income and you will have to pay taxes on them. Here is a link to explain it better: http://statesidelegal.org/student-loan-discharge-or-forgiveness-and-military-service Edited May 15, 2014 by rpowell01

USMC_HVEQ
Navy04, I just got approved for my student loan permanent discharge on June 2nd after I recently was awarded TDIU P&T in APril 1st. I am still waiting on the release paperwork from Dept of Education. Nelnet works for Dept of Education and does the vetting process for discharges so Dept of education doesnt waste their time on that. Fill out application Give copy of your rating decision letter with the effective date you became TDIU or 100%. Do not just send VA generated benefits letter from eBenefits as I had made the mistake of doing and they held it up. They need the effective date of the granted 100% or TDIU effective date. That and the application. If you had made any payments after that date they will refund it to you. This will generate a 1099-c for us all by years end for next years taxes. They will count this for income purposes. So be prepared next year to owe. I myself have 31K coming off (only borrowed 20K, the rest was 7% consolidation loan interest over the last bunch of years). I'm just wondering when it will be completed so can get it off my credit report. http://www.disabilitydischarge.com/Application-Process/ http://www.disabilitydischarge.com/Forms/ I want to use the VA home loan, since my rent 1560/mo blows and I'd rather it go towards something I can build off....sorry to hijack your thread.
