How does VA rate combined SC%?

I Have a vet that is 0% connected for his disability and he went for increase like a year later and they up graded his disability to 50%, then a year later he got 10% for secondary SC, to 60% Then about 2 years later filed for increase on the same disability and they gave him 90% so what the heck would his combined rating be? I think 60% but then again I don't know how they rate it? IS it possibly be he has a combined rating of SC 90% now?

Anybody know?

I suspect that since he is 90% now that the combination of his SC disabilities come to that number. Say he started out with a 50% rating for X ailment and then they increased him to 60% for X ailment and then 90% for X ailment. Now if he has Y,Z ailments that combine in there to make that 90% then it's up in the air unless we know what his individual ratings for each ailment are?

For instance:

We start with 100%. We take the highest rated ailment, let's say it's 50%. We subtract that 50% from the 100% and have 50% left. Now if we have a 30% ailment then we take 30% of the 50% that's left which is 15%. We add the 50% from the first rated ailment to the 15% of the second highest rated ailment and we end up with 65% which is paid at a rate of 70%.

Hope that makes sense and that I understood you correctly.

Joe Hillbilly gave a great explanation! Your vet is probably already receiving the combined rating. My suggestion would be that he apply for TDIU, if he's unable to work due to his SC disabilities. Also, he may want to look into errors in his initial rating(s), or an EED, as it could mean some additional retro. jmo
