How To Get Correct Retro Payment

Rate this question

WhyMista

Question

So when I got my recent 20% increase it was effective from 20150220 and my payment start date was 20150301. However I did not receive the correct payment in either march or april. I did receive a retro payment of like 492 but they should have payed me the same amount for march as well. Who or how would I contact them to remedy this?

Thanks.

I will explain this one last time. They don't owe you for March. Your award effective date was 20150220. Payment starts on 20150301 meaning you start earning that payment but it doesn't actually get paid until 20150401. And that's how it works. When you receive a payment on the 1st, it's for the previous month. VA doesn't pay benefits in advance.

Going through the same thing. I had to file a NOD. I did it through DAV same VSO who did my upgrade. Which is going to take 6mo to 1yr is what I was told.

Sometimes the people around you wont understand your journey. They don't need to, it's not for them.

Yep...this has been explained multiple times. Your "start date" is the first of the month "following" your effective date, because you are not pro rated any benefits..you have to get it the whole month or you get zero, and, even then, as PR pointed out, its paid in arrears. Social Security disability, I think, has a 6 month "waiting period" for benefits to start.
