PTSD or Depression?

Rate this question

Question

  • HadIt.com Elder

what is the difference between MMD and PTSD?

VA Diagnose me with DSM 5 Trama PTSD...Back in June of this year, I been going to a psychiatrist once a month and a CLSW therapist once a week since.

I check my VA Notes today and the therapist is saying at the end of his session notes  I have  ''a DSM5 Depression...what is the difference?

if the VA Rates these symptoms differently  we can't have both correct?

Do I need to ask the psychiatrist what I have  ? Although she says in her Notes I have Been Diagnosed with a VA Psychiatrist.for PTSD with Unspecific Depressive Disorder..so if I get a C&P anytime soon  which one will they use?

i Have an'' Intent to file claim'' submitted to my particular VA Intake Center in Janesville Wi

Not sure what claim to file as?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Go ahead and file for "mental health issues".

Let the VA DX you at the C&P.

However, ...

The MDD ("manic depressive disorder", is what I think you meant by MMD) DX will stand the test of time better the PTSD, imho, because the VA is still considering that there is a future cure for PTSD, while MDD is typically permanent.

This is jmvho.  Others will probably disagree.

I agree above, and have stated in other posts that the MDD or Depression, sounds like an easier route for you. Once SC granted, then you can always request secondary issues.

I filed for and received a rating for "PTSD w/ Anxiety and Depression"  I STRONGLY urge you to file with that exact wording. Down the road if a C&P examiner finds one but not the other, it won't hurt you.
