Question

I have a huge question that I need help with. I just received my letter from the VA saying that my rating is 100% for PTSD. I have been going to school on Post 9-11 and work study at the VA. So how do I find out if I am employable or not employable. I have the letter and it says: You are considered to be totally and permanently disabled due solely to your service-connected disabilities: YES.
Does that mean I can't work or go to school?

This is the rating criteria for a 100% mental heath disorder.  It precludes a veteran from legally workingIf a person is disoriented to time or place, how can he/she be on time for work?  If they forget their own occupation, who would keep them as an employee?

Total occupational and social impairment, due to such symptoms as: gross impairment in thought processes or communication; persistent delusions or hallucinations; grossly inappropriate behavior; persistent danger of hurting self or others; intermittent inability to perform activities of daily living (including maintenance of minimal personal hygiene); disorientation to time or place; memory loss for names of close relatives, own occupation, or own name. 100%

You are not supposed to be working my friend. I only have 70% for PTSD, but that along with my TBI, I was found "Not able to handle my Finances and a Danger to Society" so I had to Resign as a Federal Agent. 100% for a Mental Condition, basically states that a Vet has Severe Mental Condition, unable to Function Properly in Society or the Work force, due to a Threat of Harm to oneself of others. Again, I am no expert, just my opinion, that only you can decide if working is worth the Benefits and Pension that you Receive. Good luck and keep us posted.

Jason, that 100% rating precludes work. I am not trying to be insensitive about your situation but I feel you should be very honest with yourself.  Look at the symptoms again. These symptoms are very severe and could cause legal problems for you and your employer and even possibly your family.  Even if these symptoms  are not frequent, if they happen once they can happen again and with any mental health disorder there could be unknown triggers that could set you off. As others have said you can apply and get SSDI but working and or going to school is like waiting for a time bomb to go off.  You not only have to consider yourself, you have to consider your employer, your co-workers, your class mates, your family and any other people who come in contact with you.  Has VA propose you to be  incompetent? If they have not be prepared they may depending on what your medical records say about you. Again I am not trying to be insensitive about your situation, I am just trying to inform you.  This is my opinion and I do not know you and I am not a medical doctor but you may want to discuss this with your doctor or even read over your medical records to see what they say.  I hope this helps and I hope you understand. To answer your question you are rated 100% scheduler, you are not rated TDIU.
